    Default Toyota Corolla Altis OR Honda Civic Oriel

    I have a choice to select either of these cars:

    - Toyota Corolla Altis, Manual Transmission (without SR)----*16,99,000/-
    - Honda Civic VTi Oriel, Manual Transmission (With SR)------*17,59,000/-

    I'd like feedback on these features/concerns:

    - Resale ?
    - Fuel consumption ?
    - Parts & Maintenance ?
    - Is 1.8L engine worth the difference (already driving 1.3L Xli) ?
    - Is Auto transmission and sun-roof extra spending worth it ?

    (*as of March,2010)

    Many Thanks for the advice.

    Resale - Obviously corolla has better resale.
    Fuel Consumption - There are numerous threads on this topic. Can vary between 7-11km/l
    parts - easily available and reasonable priced if bought from the right source
    Yes 1.8L engine is worth the difference
    Go for autotransmission. Its becoming a necessity considering the volume of traffic in cities these days. Not really a big fan of sunroof.

    Which one should you buy? My answer - Neither of the two. For the money you will end up paying after registration n blah blah blah, you are better off buying a used markII. Even if you want to stick to local brands, go for a year or so used car. Just my two cents.

    @MK
    If i were you, id buy a clean lancer for less than one million rs. (like the one @killervtec is selling) and save the rest for may be another car. That 1.6 lancer will give you just as much comfort and fun if not more.

    @deel_ee

    I'm switching from a 1.3L XLi, and prefer a new car. I understand the unusually high prices especially when 1.8L is the replacement choice (and the continuous rise in prices).

    in my opinion at such a price both the cars are not worth it
    Honda is over priced
    Toyota is like a national car a farmers car its called so dont waste 17 lack on a farmers vehicle

    if u are spending 17 to 18 lack get a used Mark X or Honda accord
    17 to 18 lack is a figure where you dont bother about fuel and resale
    Audi is like a disease once it gets in your blood there is no going back

    If its either of the two, its got to be the Civic. Go on for it and dont look back.

    altis resale sux . civic resale is much better . mileage in both is almost the same arnd 10 km/l in city . parts easily available and abt the same price maybe honda is a little expensive . 1.8 is deffinetly worth it . honestly i think theres no point in buying manual 1.8 car . automatic is too good in 1.8

    civic prosmatec is the better buy

    well everyone has his/her own taste so it makes no sense in forcing ur opnion onto others we just need toput down the real stats and thats it and let the topic poster decide himself.

    now as for the resale point the 2005 onwards altis's resale is poor and this is no false info. u guyz also abt it , gli and xli has gud resale but altis no way, civic on the other hand has started to gain attention with buyers who are looking for used civics, the 2004 onwards model on of the civic has got gud reale value now. Now the maintenace costswud be the same as both are 1.8l and parts are more or less the same.

    Civic's drive is thousand times more pleasurable than altis's and now this is not just me saying coz i own a civic but bcoz i have first hand experience of both the car's drive. i have even heard ppl sitting in a bank and saying that corolla's drive has no match wid civic's and that guy was by th looks lookd really paindo(uneducated type guy).

    and yeah auto transmission is worth spending more as the new civics do not give a jhaatka when the gear changes plus it's a very usefull feature in a country like pakistan where on every road there is traffic jam now i hope all this i have mentioned also helps in u making the right decision.

    and more thing when ur like spending arnd 18lacs for a car then spending like 70-80000 more for sunroof isn't a bad decision, sunroof adds to the looks of the car and plus the interior also feels more luxurious.

    mark Xs are b/w 24-28 lacs. and abt the accord , the car has already live most of it's live so don't expect it to be a problem free car it will start to give u problems and hes already too much concerned abt the resale, parts and maintenance so makx, accords, mark2 is not a gud option for him.

    bdw wud anyone explain me why i see so many corollas for sale just after the owner brought it some time back, there are so many threads in which members are selling their brandnew corollas whereas on the other hand u see less civics up for sale, why is that?

    @MK,
    bhai i thought abt ur concerns and now i have come to decision that if ur that much concernd abt these factors then it's better that u keep ur gli and enjoy the 1.3l engine and it's mindblowing drive, im not being rude here so i hope u won't mind it.
