    Question Buying Suzuki Alto VXR CNG

    Hi,

    Very new to PW, have been going through the used car ads for like 3-4 months now coudnt make up my mind as I owned a City Steermatic 2007 was leased and got it stolen in DEC-09 it was leased on five years so most of the insurance money went to the bank and I recived less than what I had paid upfront 35% of car cost, so I now I will NEVER buy on lease again lost almost .6M to it.

    I have a range to go as far as swift, but everyone here (my family) says to go for a cheap and low profile car everyone is suggesting Alto, anyone who owns/ownd a City knows its hard to convert from top up to middle.

    I need suggestions

    1) Suzuki Alto VXR CNG will be best value-for-money?
    2) Will CNG make hell of a diffrence? I will use the car only for family comuting not for going office. hence the car wont be used everyday (eg is my stolen city which was driven 23-25,000 km in three years)
    3) If I have to go for Alto, will new matter or I can get used and save some more bucks?
    4) Alto VXR CNG vs Cultus VXR CNG vs Swift Petrol (vs Vitz?), which one is a best buy in terms of maintainace, parts & milage?

    I know its going to be a huge diffrence for whatever else car I chose from in regards with City but I have made up my mind not to lease anything.

    @waqas tariq
    I owned a alto vxr cng in cool biege for 5 years. there are couple of advantages and disadvantages you need to consider.
    advantages:
    1. Very torquey and durable engine.
    2. excellent mileage on cng
    3. very good ac never gets heat up.
    4. excellent in climbing hieghts i took it to murree on cng and ac and it performed excellent. reason for this is that the engine of this car is basically out of a potohar.
    5. very good suspension and ride comfort.
    6. solid body compared to cultus and coure
    As a jeeps engine has advantages like these they also have drawbacks
    1. acceleration is not as good as coure or santro
    2. very less space for pessengers in back seats.

    I must say it is not a car to be compared with city in anyway but its drive is very good comparing to cars in its class. Cultus has an advantage for good pick and spacious interior but other than that cultus has an old shape and design. I wont recommend swift as its too expensive and you dont even get a boot and it has Lianas engine so its very difficult to convert to cng. You can look for Liana 2008-2009 Lxi cng and it has many features eg (abs, power steering, power windows, alloyrims, foglights etc and very good drive) and you can get a good one in your range.
    regards

    I hate coure and santro, I usually a slow driver, so 1 will not be a probem from me. 2 is a point to look at, ill check it out next time I see an alto.

    Dont go for cultus if you have capacity of cultus than go and buy swift because it is much better and parts are of good quality than all suzukis in Pakistan.Second thing it is 1.3L and much power full car.I dont know about swift in cng.If it is coming than obviously go for swift.

    1) It is far less expensive than other cars but lacks several important features. Spare parts are easily available but the car is not good if you plan to run it on petrol due to ancient engine and carby system. On CNG it is very good though.

    2) Well CNG is more economical but if you dont use your car much then you may want to reconsider.

    3) Your choice but if you plan to get a used car get it in good condition. (since alto has high resale right now a 2009-2010 used excellent condition alto wont cost much less than a zero meter one...but u will save at least the registration cost + a few more thousands)

    4) If you have narrowed down your final options to alto, cultus and swift, I would recommend you go for Swift as its the only decent car among the three mentioned. Quality and features of the swift are far better than alto and cultus.

    @waqas tariq
    I would not recommend you cultus. Because i really look for safety in cars and cultus, mehran and coure all are very old designs so they have no collapsable zones and in a crash there cabins get the most strain resulting in driver and pessengers severe injuries. And all these cars look too old now to spend money on and they are over priced. My opinion is if you dont want to buy Liana then Swift is a good option and if the news of cng version is true then you better wait because as i said the M13A engine in Liana and swift is very difficult to adjust on after market cng kits and usually causes trouble.

    Thank you Zaeem, though i am not that much looker of saftey in cars... the old Pakistani thinking I have

    I agree with you on the old and usafe part, Duh! confused again, I just realised that if Swift will come in CNG it will be 60-70K more expensive then the orignal Swift, meaning it will almost cost 1.2m (with reg and tax) that will be to expensive for me

    Now what will you suggest?

    you are right the cng version will definitely be 60k expensive and 1.2m is too much for a swift. But on the other hand prices of all the cars are too much nowdays and if you dont have any issue on buying a used car then you have more options. As you dont have so much concern about safety then used cultus may be a good option for you because it will be in your budget and mantenance and parts are very cheap and it is lowprofile car (as your family is suggesting). But dont waste money buying a new cultus.

    If someone genuinely cared about the safety of the cars here, they'd never buy a new car. Compare the durability and ability to survive crashes of old models (8-10 year old) and the new ones. The quality of the parts they use now is a disgrace.

    Sir

    Buy a 7th Gen Civic used 75-100K on Petrol or CNG, VTI PROSMATEC preferred.

    You can also Lease the car from any Islamic bank, they will not charge anything in case of theft or total loss.

    These new cars do not worth you hard earned money, especially as a family car.

    I have a Civic for almost 5 years and by the grace of Allah, it is not stolen once.

    You will never drive any other local car, if you have driven a good Civic.

    I checked a couple of un-registered Vitz a day ago my budget is 1m with +-50k, I was able to find 2006-7 Vitz in that range, I got to know one thing though that new Vitz is not that good with CNG and petrol avg is 13-14KMPL and as its an imported car has no warranty. So I am not going to go for Vitz, Then I checked out Swift at a showroom as well and I must say its is almost as good as Vitz, maybe its even better than Vitz (Im talking about in looks inside and out)

    As I said earlier Swift will come in CNG after a while, but will be expensive for my range so I have decided this. I am going to buy Alto used 2006-07 and save the rest of the money, buy gold or sth and then save till I have enough to buy Swift SNG and then got for it

    @waqas
    Good brother but still keep in mind alto has very little legroom for pessengers in backseats.
    But you have decided right Vitz is a good car if you are planning to use it on petrol. cng really spoils its drive and engine.
