    Can you prove it in any way, give some numbers, what are your driving impressions after driving an E46 or Mark 2?, why was that commercial success discontinued and vanished into history.

    What will it cost to replace the rear bumper of Mark 2 and 318I/W202 in Karachi?

    For how much and what time will it take to sell the Mark 2 in Karachi?

    Exactly what luxury or sport features Mark2 has?

    regards
    I have driven a Mark X.....no bmw or mark2....but have friends who have bmw 3series of this shape, they say its not really that good considering the price and cost of replacing different parts involved in maintainence etc....and reliability wise its also not that good....
    that commercial success was discontinued to make some space for a new model to celebrate 30 years of commercial success....(mark x)

    Mark2 hasthe following features:

    2 litre engine , rear wheel drive...
    leather interior, electric seats , good looks , spacious interior....durable parts everywhere....
    alot of rear legroom...good audio system....and keyless entry and i think it also does have smart key option...
    basically it has everything a bmw has....what bmw doesn't have is reliability and cheap maintainance cost....

    Sirs

    I think we all should sworn or take oath that we have some sort of experience with both cars or give some statistics or detailed analysis before giving our expert opinion to spend someone's 2-3M Rs of HARD earned money (especially in Pakistan).

    Beginning with myself, driven bot Mark 2 and Mark X for around 200km (a relative's car in Lahore, he replaced Mark 2 with Mark X, then replaced it with a RR Vogue), have a
    w202 in Pakistan with pretty much same specs/features, elder brother owned an E46 325XI Premium and winter package (bank leased, not in Karachi), driven for 3.5K km.

    the 1JZ-GTE & 2JZ-GE engines were lovely powerplants and even the 1G-FE and 2JZ-GE were no slouches. in PK finding an E46 with an engine larger than 2L would be hard, and i find that these small engines don't do the chassis any favours.

    yes the interior sucked in the Mark II when compared to the E46, specially the dashboard, which looked as if it was lifted straight from a 92 hilux, but the overall feel in the cabin was more roomy and more comfortable. i'm only making this suggestion based on the buyer being in PK.

    Sir with due respect:

    2 litre engine (that poor 1GFE has to pull more then 1500KG) , rear wheel drive...(that is unique only for a commercial producer like Toyota, BMW is a premium sedan manufacturer and I do not remember any FWD from BMW).

    All the features you have mentioned are standard equipment on an E46 (North american), plus rain sensing wipers, heated seats and S/R were standard on Premium Package.

    Just for reference purposes, this is a 14 year old C class and I can assure you that my Brother's E46 had much better interior and quality due to intense competition with W202.

    https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/veh...-w202-1996-khi

    I cannot guarantee about used imports but even the most fierce competitors of Bimmer can not raise any eyebrows on its design or reliability.

    good looks

    I highly disagree to that, even a 7th gen Corolla or Civic has much much better looks (personal thought).

    Rear legroom is the only front at which Toyota can excel, but this alone cannot be a good reason to spend nearly 2M Rs.

    Corolla, LandCruiser, Lancer, Crown, Civic and even the newer Accord has well past the 30 years mark, their name is till the same.

    BTW, I remember that the till 35th anniversary it was still Mark2 (Regerea or something).

    It was just to change the brand name and negative impression of the car.

    regards

    i'm going to agree with you on these points. a corolla or a civic should not even be brought into this topic,.. maybe the camry and accord, but not their smaller siblings.

    @Storm

    Sir

    I happily agree with your opinion.

    Also, high chances are that in Pakistan BMW would have been already ruined.

    @MagnusSS

    I am giving you a sensible alternative, Get a top grade CL9 with Auto and S/R, a lot of car for your money.

    @BackToCivicFaiez

    What purpose do we serve then?

    Sir

    I thought looks has nothing to do with size.

    Otherwise, I will rephrase that, I think Accord (Japanese) and Premio are much better.

    one point i feel is that the mark 2 has larger rear leg room than a bmw 3 series. its not very spacious in the bmw at the back.

    @BackToCivicFaiez

    thank you for your opinion, but i think a mark x would be over our budget.

    @959
    very informative. weirldy i dont really like the cl9. it simply doesn't click.

    @Storm & toofast

    i think the older BMW's were reliable, but are the newer ones like the e46 headaches in terms of reliability. and we are not planning on driving it everyday therefore less wear and tear so is it still very expensive in terms of parts.

    @malik593
    we want it for a weekend car not a daily driver.

    @Storm
    yes it will be hard to find a bmw OR even a mark 2 with a bigger engine. but we are not planning to race or anything so may be a smaller engine will work, and be economical. what to you say...

    Sir

    Just check out for the prices of regular maintenance parts before buying Mark 2 (oil, air filter, brake pads) as it has been discontinued, that can affect you in long run.

    You can also consider Camry, Accord (Thailand) for roominess and drive train and Premio for a good family car with easy and cheap maintenance and good resale.

    Can also look for a 2000 year W203, if you want, very good car, flying carpet ride and trouble free.

    Best of luck and regards

    its close to 1300kg....these cars are comparitively lighter than bmws and mercedes....
    Mark2 has got good efficiency, you cant beat that using a bmw no matter what....
    Mark2 spare parts are smuggled in bulk so they are cheap and readily available....Bmw on the other hand has no authorized smugglers in pakistan and so BMW parts are quite expensive from showrooms and not available everywhere..
    Also some of the toyota parts are easily compatable wid other toyota car parts....

    @Topic starter: look for 2000 model + toyota crowns.....they are in ur budget and very good....But if u really want to buy a car wid a name, dont buy a BMW, buy a mercedes W140......no one can say its a bad car no matter wat...

    a w140 and a toyota crown are very large cars, therefore difficult to drive, and have big engines so running costs will also be high.

    @BMW7Series & guganali007

    why Mark II ?

    Sir

    W140 is a very very reliable car, its handling is better then cars weighing much less like Camry and Mark 2.

    The engines will offer you not more then 5-7 KM but the luxury is outstanding with features like power-assisted closing for doors and boot lid and double glazing windows as standard.

    You can get a good one for around 2M for both a S170 Eleventh Gen Crown and W140, w140 is very hard to find though.

    These are both near limousine luxury cars, Crown is less exciting to drive and own but cheap to maintain, W140 was the best built S class ever and S class is the flagship of Mercedes.
