    Default City or Cultus or another? Need help please

    Hi,
    I currently live in the Middle East and am planning to buy a car in Karachi. It will primarily be used by my mother (with a driver). Once a year when I visit with my family we will of course use it too. I have 3 kids so initially I was planning on buying a Honda City of 2004-2005 since its a bit bigger and would have a trunk, but some people suggested I should go for Cultus as its more economical and all parts are easily available and are less expensive than Honda, also I would be able to get a newer Cultus in my price range. The Cultus as I have been told is only available with manual transmission (I would prefer to buy an automatic though).

    Now, the of course the budget plays the most important role, my range was about 6-6.5 lacs, may be able to add 20-25000 Rs more but thats about it.

    Can you guys please advise, which car would be a better option or if there is another one in this price range I should consider, I'm open and not biased towards any particular manufacturer.
    I was also planning to get full insurance due to theft risks. So if someone could suggest which insurance company to go with, that would be reallllly great!!!

    Thanks so much.
    uzee

    i am honestly advising u go for Cultus because the budget u mentioned above its not enough 4 city specially (automatic transmission).
    if mistakenly u got city in this budget it will required lots of mechanical work 4 smooth running.

    Thanks

    Sir

    City is a much better car, go for it, there is a whole class difference between City and Cultus of mainstream and semi executive.

    Plus you will get more interior and luggage room, power everything and better engine, gearbox, handling and ride quality, 2006 Cultus had a 3 cylinder engine with annoying noise and suspensions also make noise on rough roads and when a stone hits on the bottom of car.

    There is a Cultus VXL with power steering and windows, but its rare and expensive.

    City Vario(AUTO) is cheaper then manual because you cannot install CNG on it, the good part is it will give you 13km/l with A/C in City and much better ride/suspensions, braking, acceleration and long engine/gearbox life due to Petrol.

    For 650K you can get a 2004 Vario or 2003 Manual (manual runs fine on CNG).

    If you will use the car heavily for 20-40km daily on rough use and traffic jams, buy Cultus, it has cheap parts and excellent resale.

    if you want a good clean up model car then i will suggest you CUORE which go best in your budget and having an auto transmission
    Cuore is a fine car having low cabin space no trunk space little bit expensive to maintain but having auto transmission and less expensive than a city and other cars. summary is its a good small family car

    for a good city you have to invest more

    for cultus, you already said that need auto transmission and stuff

    and about insurance efu and adams are best in insurance they take approx 3% - 4% of total price

    Thanks so much everyone for the replies...I agree 100% that City is a much better car, unfortunately the only reason to compare was due to budget. On pakwheels, I have seen some City cars for sale for around 6.9 - 7.2 lacs (mostly 2004), considering there is some negotiation involved, I thought that might fall in my budget.
    Cuore is a good car, but really capacity wise its too small for me.
    Can you guys tell me, how much should I expect to pay for a good Cityaround 2005-2006?
    Also, is there any good mechanic/shop which can do a full check up of the car before I buy? just to make sure it doesn't have major problems...

    Thanks
    uzee

    Put Vitz in the equation as well.

    Airbags, auto-transmission, its a better car.

    @shani248

    Sir no one has invited you on Pakwheel, its a membership of like minded people who tries to help each other out in difficult times.Either you can give a positive comment or can remain an expectator.

    @bango

    Sir no doubt Vitz is best, but poster has concerns for maintenance.

    @uzee007

    Sir either you can buy a good 2003 Vario in your budget or an average 2004 or a highly used 2005, the choice is yours, I suggest to go for a good 2003 one with low mileage.

    As there is virtually no change in performance, drivetrain, equipment and appearance.

    A good City Vaio 2005 between 700 - 775 K, 50-75K driven, depending on mileage, condition and where it has been maintained.

    Good Manual City 2005 for 800K and 875 K for an immaculate one with around 30K driven.

    Get anyone from Honda Pitshop or 3S, they will charge a fee.

    You can leave me a message when you will be purchasing the car and your budget, I will help you, regardless of any brand which you will decide.

    Regards
