    Default South African 1.3L Corolla

I would like to apologize in advance if this has been discussed before. I see a lot of New Corolla XLI/GLI owners complaining of low torque/low pickup. I was going through the South African Toyota website and this is what they have to offer in their 1.3L variant.

    Toyota Vehicle Specifications

    Engine type 1NR-FE
    Displacement (cm3) 1329
    Cylinder configuration 4 in-line
    Max. power (kW @ r/min) 74 @ 6000
    Max. torque (Nm @ r/min) 132 @ 3800
Valve mechanism 16-valve DOHC with Dual VVT-i
    Valves per cylinder 4
    Bore x stroke (mm) 72.5 x 80.5
    Compression ratio 11.5 : 1
Fuel supply Electronic fuel injection (EFI)
    Unleaded fuel requirement Only
    Emission control Catalytic converter
    Emission control phase Euro 4
    Transmission configuration 6-speed manual
    Gear ratios: 1st 3.538
    Gear ratios: 2nd 1.913
    Gear ratios: 3rd 1.310
    Gear ratios: 4th 0.971
    Gear ratios: 5th 0.818
    Gear ratios: 6th 0.700
    Gear ratios: Reverse 3.333
    Clutch diameter (mm) 200
    Driven wheels Front
    Service intervals (km) 15000
    ToyotaCare Service Plan 5 years/90 000km
    Warranty 3 years/100 000km
    Performance

Performance (Data by Toyota Motor Corporation)
    Top speed (km/h) 180
    Fuel consumption: Combination (l/100km) 5.9
Performance (Data by CAR Magazine, SA)

Also, the pickup and mileage of this corolla is phenomenal (for a 1.3L) after reading a couple of reviews. I wonder why Toyota Indus haven't offered this engine in their XLI/GLI variants considering the staggering price tag they have on these vehicles.

@Zaeem89 I totally agree with you. Pakistani Corolla is a total rip off. Both Pak Suzuki and Toyota Indus are offering outdated products with cosmetic changes.

Isn't the engine being offered in the Locally assembled XLI/GLI a Belta engine?

Simply love the black interior of the South African Corolla. Guess I'm the odd one out when it comes to preferring black coloured interior over beige.

What advantages does a dual VVTi engine has over a single VVTi engine?

Also if we are comparing international spec corollas with the local spec please also compare the prices and the features they offer. Everyone of you will be surprised.

@mubeenshahid I need to correct you here my friend. Toyota is offering new shape but with outdated engines in their 1.3, 1.8 and 2.0D variants. Honda Atlas is somewhere ahead when it comes to offering up to date models but even they have been effected with this "PAKSUZUKI SYNDROME" of offering low grade material in their product interiors. As I'm an owner of the new City, my driver always makes fun of me owning a 1.2 million car without a trunk light and arm rest. :| . In a nutshell, all Locally assembled cars suck big time!

@mani1 LOL Why should I? I don't see any trunk light in my City. Come to think of it, how much does it cost to install one?

Because he is getting out of his bounds. You pay him and not the other way around. I would never insult my employees/drivers and most definitely wouldn't expect them to insult me.

And when I was talking about research I meant the topic. PK spec corolla offer many more features which the US spec does not have such as rear disc brakes, triptronic transmission, cruise control and leather seats to name a few. A couple of features such as cruise control are available as optionals on US spec corolla but when their cost is added it becomes way more than PK corolla considering our status as a developing country.

Infact when you talk about comparisons, PK spec corolla should be compared with corolla s of developing countries only to take into account effects of a closed economy and tariffs. Only then a price/feature comparison would make sense (I still compared the US spec corolla with PK spec only to highlight how much better off we are)
