Default How to race on an Automatic Car?

Well guys as the topic title says, i want to know how do we race on an automatic car? First of all, i wanted to ask that can the launch of an automatic car be the same like on a manual car? Like on manual cars we can press the clutch full way down with the accelerator with 1 gear on and then as we leave the clutch suddenly, the car immediately accelerates with a screech. Can this thing be done on an auto car? Also as on manual cars we go in descending order to shift the gears i.e 1 gear to 2 gear and so on while racing, but in my car, there are three drive gears, D, D3 and 2. So i wanted to ask if while racing, how do i shift? Like what gear should i launch the car on and how should i change them as the speed increases?

Launch in D, later shift to D2 if its a small city racing scene where you expect to go to 100-120kmph max. If it is to be prolonged, shift to D again at around 70-80kmph.

For screeching tires, rev in N and shift to D (you'll screw your transmission though)

all u can do on Auto Tranny is floor the accelerator and pray :p

Like on manual cars we can press the clutch full way down with the accelerator with 1 gear on and then as we leave the clutch suddenly, the car immediately accelerates with a screech. Can this thing be done on an auto car?
its possible on high end Sports cars on Auto Tranny
they employ something called "Launch Control" which does exactly this
it provides power to the drive as u reach a certain RPM to immediately accelerate like u can do on Manual

but its not available on ur average family sedan with auto tranny
because the purpose of Auto tranny is largely for convenient driving rather than racing

if you want to launch an auto just press both pedals when i D and then release the brake when you wna to go. it helps, but not much.

you're better off trading it in for a manual if you intend on doing this continuously as you WILL destroy the gearbox.

but the thing is that i have seen in my car that when i put up my car in 2 or D3, the RPM goes further up before the gear changes while as in D, the gears change at a lower rpm. And i want to quote one thing written in my cars manual. It says:

For faster acceleration when in D3, you can get the transmission to automatically downshift by pushing the accelerator pedal to the floor. The transmission will shift down one or two gears, depending on your speed.
Can anybody explain me this phenomena?

In a automatic car first you need to know the psychology of your car. Your own coordination and adjustments with your ride.
If you need a wheel spin or stuff like that you should put your car in Nutural accelerate it to max that will differ from car to car as it is in Hondas you are limited to 5000 RPMs on a static ride (stock) and when you are ready put it directly in 2 or D2.
It will give you a beter start. and by putting it in D2 for every gear you will accelerate to 6800 RPMs (With refference to Hondas) and Don't think the car will not go beyond 2nd gear it will continue to shift at 6800 RPMs ie. to 3rd 4th gear and further it gets a quick kick down every time your car reduces to 4900 RPMs (hondas)

i also have the VTEC advantage jokes aside, i also wanted to ask that if i want to shift between D3 and 2 during driving, do i have to press the release button everytime to switch between the two gears or just move the lever? Because in the car's manual it is written that you can just move the lever if you want to go from 2 to D3 but you have to press the release button if you want to go from 2 to D3.

but it is written in the manual that we only to have to press the release button if shifting from R to P, N to R and D3 to 2. While as we only have to move the lever if shifting from 2 to D3, D3 to D, D to N, D to D3, N to D and R to N. So my question is that wont the transmission be damaged if we are like say at 120km/h in D and we switch to D3 suddenly? And one more thing, D is the highest gear, then comes D3 and then 2 right?

@ born2Race. You don't need to press the release button to switch to 3rd gear the ride will automatically shift to the 3rd gear when your RPMs cross 6800. Try it...

Well getting a lil offtopic, just get your transmission oil changed and you wouldnt need to worry about D2 D3 and D
However I personally have never felt any difference if going from D1 to D2 to D3 to D
I think the response is alot lot better if you just keep it in D and floor it.

I understand what ur trying to ask! Racing an automatic is not a good idea after all! But if u want to and u want to launch ur auto car like a manual, then u have to do something like this: YouTube - Honda Civic 2004 0-100 2nd run
I did this and u can clearly see how!

and as for ur question of the gear! Reving and Shifting from N to D will cause damage to ur transmission, i've been doing it many times but still transmissions fine lol!
No you don't need to press the gear lever button when going from D2 to D3, but you have to press the button when going from D3 to D2!
Look you can play around with the gear lever in between N to D3 without the need to press the button else u need to!
As for the launch, don't use D2! as when u shift ur lever in D2 it means only 2nd Gear will operate!!
Its better to shift during a launch from N to D or D3!! it doesn't really matter i've tried it all many times!
And once u've launched don't leave the throttle, floor it all the way!

    and

    Sir

Floor the pedal in D3 at startup, shift to "2" @ 35km/hr, shift again to D3 at 90km/hr.

Do not worry about RPM, all new Civics have cut out set at high RPMS.
