Purchased original honda coolant for 800rs per bottle (pre mixed), will need to find out its size since a friend of mine bought it for me.. Took approx 2.5 bottles to fill up my honda city 05's radiator/reservoir bottle after draining the old one out.

Guys please shed some light on the instruction on my Civic bonet. "Never dilute the coolent otherwise the life of the car's engine would be seriously shortened" ? Are we supposed to fill whole of our radiator + reservoir only with the coolent?

Secondly, I have read somewhere and have also experienced personally that in cold, coolent in the radiotor contracts so the level in the resorvior drops, but as the car engine gets warmer; the level comes to the normal level and if there is some excess water/coolent, it is drained through the resorvior cap holes. So, is it normal ?

you are right, upon shutting of your engine coolent will be sucked in the radiator and as soon as you start the car and it reaches at its otimum level, excessive coolent will be sent back to the reservoir and if the reservoir already contains more than enough coolent,it will be drained out through the drain pipe attached with resvoir's neck cap.

I can recommend a simple coolant/anti-freeze test, put it in the freezer and if it freezes it is totally junk

you both are right. The reserve bottle should not be over filled till its nick, rather it should be filled to the full mark, not above it.

    Salam guys
on many cars ,water reservoir bottle,
    its written that

    (for coolant only)

So does it mean we should use concentrated coolant in reservior bottle or should mix with water, the same one we use in radiator.

    thanx

it is written just because to warn you not to fill with break fluid or steering one. Otherwise one can call coolant to water as well. Because water is best coolant with 2 drawbacks, one is its rust prone, second its boiling point is just 100 degree c. Also freezing point is not much low. So v add green, orange or other color coolants to raise water boiling point , low its freezing point, and add the ability of anti rust. Some coolants are pre diluted with water at factory while others need to be diluted with water later ourself. If u add water in radiator and coolant in bottle it will mix automatically when the temperature of your engine raised and water expands the exessive water will come to the reservire bottle and mix with it. When u park the car at night the engine will cold down and the water goes back to the radiator by contraction.

You can get Caltex Coolant from Caltex Pump in F6 Islamabad.
I bought it 4 months ago, price was around 500 Rs/liter.

i agree with u horse rider on most points but one..
coolant dont increases the boiling temperature of water, the pressurized system makes it..
tht is ,the whole cooling system is air tight, which makes it to boil it at a slightly higher temp than normal...which is why wen car heats up,first hing to chk is radiator cap tightness, cuz if its not properly tightened, the cooling system will not b air tight hence cooling system is prone to get boiled...

did you make the nasa bottle pressurized? And the osaka bottle open? If not then it means that coolant does increase boiling point and decrease freezing point. I was talking specifically about coolant properties. And i agree with u that the other factor is radiator pressure which increase boiling point just like pressure cooker. If v keep the radiator pressure low all the coolant water will be vaporized and the system will get empty. Thanks
