i think there is a device named rev limiter responsible for this, removing it will remove this limit, sometimes a rev limit is programmed into the ecu directly. in that case you might need to change ecu with aftermarket one or reprogramm it.

do nothing, the factory rev limiter is for the good of your engine

could somebody shed light on this more elaborately, purticularly does the rev limit come into action when in neutral or does it also engage when the car is in gear, this thing doesnt happen in the new civic!

if your car is equiped with traction control then switch it of and you will be able to rev it to max

iam not sure about 2011 civic because it has same ecu controls as of 2007 for the first edition and in 2007 there wasnt any rev limiter on stand still for DOHC i-vtec
for the city i guess there is one from the video which is a good sign for engine
Its good if you want to race on your civic and you dont have it otherwise its good to have it in your car

its there in all ecu cars Stock cars

the limiter cuts of the engine in simple words just to protect it.

Whereas in the case of new cars .If the engine is cold The Limiter's limit comes around 4k when its actually not moderate enough for engine.Thats what i have seen in the new city myself.

Otherwise when the car has stopped and the temperature is half way less. Try it its going to head up to 6.5 rpm max then start cutting off
"Its not the engine but its the brakes that play the most important role".

yes ive experienced it too. In civic it does not cross 5k when revved in neutral. But touches 6.5k when car is in D.

On neutral, Civic's rpm lock is at 5.5K. But if one drives on D1 or in first gear, it reaches upto 6300 RPM and then there is a limiter.

Not at all. In "N", the rpm will fluctuate between 5000-5500 RPM. And redline is only achieved either in D1 and D2. Never tried on D3 and D.
That too the RPM clutter sound is heard at 6700
