    Default Honda Civic iVTEC - M/T

    I am considering to buy Civic iVTEC M/T (Entry level Civic); I am surprised to know that there is no SRS in this whereas Altis M/T (Entry level Altis) has (Source: Honda | Pakistan | CIVIC | Specifications) I visited Honda 3S dealer; they didnt had this variant in display. Can someone confirm this?

    How you guys rate this variant especially from the resale point...I am intending to keep this for atleast 3 years

    This version also doesn't has side mirrors with integrated turn light; not that big deal; but curious; can I replace them with VTi Oriel one? If yes; any estimated cost?

    There is no keyless entry; I heard that keyless entry mechanism is built in all Civic; its just they dont give you the special key and it can be bought seperately? If yes; how much it would cost me?

    Lastly; how is its ground clearance comparing to Altis? The slope in my house' drive way is quite steep; Altis climbs it up marginally; any suggestion how to resolve this issue from those who faced similar situation?

    Thanks guys for the feedback!!!

    I tried local market for used Oriel (new shape). Most of the cars were too much used (30,000+) and many of them were on CNG. CNG cars have higher asking price and secondly I don’t like CNG cars; as these new engines don’t work best with CNG and deteriorate much quickly. Also couldn’t found clean car in silver color; which is my preferred one!

    My drive is not that much; drove my City just 20,000 in ~1.5 years; just office and picking/dropping children from nearby school. I kept City on petrol (and under warranty) and also intending to keep my new ride on petrol and under warranty. These new electronic engines some time become tricky to deal with. I once saw brand new Civic with frozen engine due to some expensive electronic component failure, but it got fixed for free because it was under warranty.

    Thinking all these I have dropped the idea of used Oriel..I will insha-Allah be buying new VTI M/T in first week of April when all the funds will be arranged. Yes; I would never like to borrow money or burden myself into any financial pressure for some “status race”. I didn’t originally had plan to invest this much..I just wanted to invest 2lakhs into my ride and tried https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/mem...9-corolla-11-a I found GLI drive much inferior comparing to City. Luckily my uncle wanted GLI (and he lives in rural area); gave mine to him on no profit-no loss basis. I should have bit patient; but have learned the lesson now

    Today did some measurements of my house' slope and made a plan for a lower slope! It involved bit trignometry; sharing for sake of fun. It might be useful to someone in future

    First some concepts

    Honda Civic iVTEC - MT -222164

    x = sqrt( sqr(d) - sqr(y) ) = d * cos(theta)
    y = sqrt( sqr(d) - sqr(x) ) = d * sin(theta)

    d = sqrt( sqr(x) + sqr(y) ) = y / sin(theta) = x / cos(theta)
    • theta should be in Radian and not Degree
    I used Ovi Store: Angle Meter Touch and learned that our slope is 17 degree. Using the same I measured the slope of my friend's place and it was 10 degree. I have decided to reduce the slope from 17 to 12 degree. The length of the slope (D) is 390cm. Using above formulae; current X is 373cm and current Y is 100cm. Y obviously cannt be changed! For 12 degree; D will be 481cm and X will be 470cm; i-e we have to take slope about 470-373=97cm into the drive way; roughly about 3 and quarter feet!

    You can get Oriel like "Keyless Entry" in VTi; charges are "6990" for this. You give them one key; they take about 1-3 weeks; when the key comes back you take the car to them and they program it. Civic VTi has the keyless receiver already...No need for disturbing wiring with any after-market keyless entry!

    IMO ivtec manual (entry lvl trim) and oriel prosmatec (top of the line) have better resale than the ivtec prosmatec n oriel manual.

    Having said that i would also like to advise to you that if you travel in rushy areas a lot, then get the pros, otherwise if you have a driving route where traffic is moderate or sometimes more than that, then manual is the car for you since you're going to buy it brand new, and its your personal car; auto civic is also a joy, but trust me the manual puts a BIGG smile on your face, sometimes you're just in the zone to play with the gears.
    As for the resale, this is Pakistan, im sure after 3-4 years people might get it off your hands for the price you paid for it, or even 20-30k on top of that, 2005 civic's are sold for much more than their price these days, so yeah anything is possible in Pakistan.

    Fog lights, not an issue, you could get after markets
    Sunroof, just a shashka for 2 3 months, uskay bad im sure you wouldnt even bother using it.
    Agree 100%

    Finally I have straighten up my financials and Alhamdulillah I am now ready to book the car "really soon" just waiting for final info of 1.6 Altis price tag

    I saw Civic with navigation few days back when I went to the dealer for delivery time query. I am confused should I book simple Civic VTi or Civic VTi with Navigation. They are charging 55,000 more for Navigation at the time of booking. If we go there to install Navigation afterwords; I think they charge ~75,000.

    I am not a big fan of playing videos in car; with increasing age; I even dont listen to music that much. Only "Navigation" feature is attractive; but I guess not attractive enough for me; as I dont use my car when we go on family trips; we use our "family/dad car" for that. That said; however I like the VTi Oriel' well embedded Audio System and someone said that I can find that from market as many people are installing LCDs/DVDs etc these days.

    Suggest guys what should I do; is this true that I can find Oriel' CD Changer/dash from "Bilal Gunj"; for how much? or should i simply go for Navigation?

    Why would you want to go for a Chinese Navigation unit? which won't even pay you back (when you sell the car)? If you have extra 50,000 to spend, buy a Pioneer 4250DVD which has much much better build quality, much better display, much better functions, and much better touch experience. Wait a month and the new 4350DVD which is coming also has option to run iPhone applications on the display and you can also run iPhone navigation on the main display screen. Above all it costs only 40k

    If I were you, I would never go for the overpriced Chinese unit Honda is offering

    go for the navi thing only if it offers you bluetooth to keep your hands off your mobile. else, it's reallly got NO use for you and seriously, the indash player looks awesome.

    save the money and keep it for something more useful. on the whole, m really happy to see you've gathered enough money to get just the very model you want.

    I would have settled for a top of the line variant (If I had that amount to spend/spare) otherwise the base model (gets you good savings to use on something more important) is as good enough. Its the same car, brand new, satisfaction that matters.

    Thanks mani1 and vajih102 on input about Navigation...Yesterday I booked VTi M/T with everything stock for 16.92 (7k for freight)...The cash I will save thus definitely will be used for something more important; giving treat to friends and family on car delivery

    The Atlas Honda factory is shutting down on May 1st; I am praying and hoping that Insh-a-Allah my car will get delivered before month end, as unlike Oriel, this variant doest have long queue and investors book Oriel more! I will suggest to those who want to book the cars; do check with the dealers that factory shutting down will not cause any delay etc

    Well the Indash SATNAV unit of Honda is not THAT bad actually. Infact i had the same opinion as yours before actually experiencing it but now iam pretty optimistic about because

    PRO's

    1) Its video out put is pretty decent and up to the mark. Atleast Iam satisfied due maybe because I donnot bother watching HD movies while driving. Otherwise its perfectly fine.

    2) Sound quality is the best part about it. It is very decent and reasonable for a normal person [Non-Music enthusiastic] i mean. So for me and my family it works well.

    3) The systems you have have mentioned CANNOT support the navigation. So if someone wants to opt for navigation then those units are definitely not his/her cup of tea. And as you have said before that we actually donnot need navigation while living in Pakistan, but trust me sometimes we do and after all its a SHISKA!

    4) It has very reasonable options, 2 SD card slots, one can play music videos, songs etc, Bluetooth option [And I use it], IPOD interface ready [IPOD/IPHONE keeps on getting charged while being connected to it. USB jack etc.

    5) Indash system looks alot more CIVILISED then other head units. Atleast to me it does. The way old kenwood player of Oriels used to look like an Alien in front of current Indash 6 CD changer

    6) Last but not the least, It will not void the WARRANTY. Which is a BIG advantage. Not many people are fond of voiding their warranties by installing fancy system's in their cars. So this definitely is a plus point considering the first 2 years or 40000km.

    CON's

    1) Its touchscreen is definitley not upto the mark. Its actually "PUSH" not the Touch so you can pretty well imagine what Iam talking about.

    Lastly, you will notice about the resale of Navigation equipped cars even today. And it definitely has resale. One can always gain around 30-40K of navigation while selling his civic. Atleast I wouldnt let go for navigation civic oriel pros on the cost of simple Oriel Prosmatec.
