16km/L in City driving with very low traffic and RPM not crossing 2000

14km/L is very possible in Karachi unless there is heavy traffic
    i have achieved this myself

Thanks people for all of your replies. Judging by the fuel consumption you people are getting, I think my City is not working well. People I really needed more replies for AUTOMATICS and there were none!

Do you'll really think the fuel consumption I am getting is OK?

I am worried my engine may not have broken-in properly (revving up too high in the initial 1000 KM - can that cause bad fuel economy?).

Or are AUTOMATICS usually around 9.5 to 10 KM/L mark? Is it OK if I am getting this?

I try to keep engine speed below 3000 rpm, or at most 3500 rpm, most of the time.

The problem might be that I rarely get clear stretches of roads where I can drive smooth and go beyond speeds like 60 KM/H. I usually drive below this speed because of the traffic situation, i.e. between 0 KM/H to 40 KM/H.

    1. AUTOMATIC
    2. CITY DRIVING (heavy traffic 50% of the time, light traffic 50% of the time)
    3. AC ON (70% of the time)
    4. SAADA PETROL
    5. 334/35 = 9.54 KM/L
    6. YES - FIRST OIL CHANGED AT 2200 KM TO HONDA SYNTHETIC "5W-something"; 3500 KM DONE UNTIL NOW IN TOTAL
    7. NO MODIFICATIONS
    8. KARACHI

Also, I would like to add that after the oil change, the car became very smooth, and I rarely need to rev-up too high to reach a certain speed. Before the oil change, I needed to press hard the accelerator to obtain to good speeds, now just a touch to the accelerator will be enough! no need to press the accelerator harshly now.

Also, the fuel consumption improved a little bit - before oil change it used to around 8 to 9 KM/L - now it is around 9.5 to 10 KM/L.

Stop looking at fuel consumption guauge Seriously...

It will get better after 10,000. Dont use Honda Oil; its not good...I used Shell Helix Ultra and was very satisfied. I am intending to use it in future as well.

And drive the way you like to...I will rather suggest to take your car on some long route and rev its engine to higher ranges; agressive gear shifts (I assume you can do that in AT by keep pressing the accelerator and not allowing it change gear). Misteree loug kehtey hein; engine khul jata hey

Dont ever think of using CNG; atleast not till ODO reaches 25,000!

    1. AUTOMATIC
    2. CITY DRIVING 70% heavy traffic
    3. AC ON
    4. Hi-Oactane
    5. 11.5 km/l avg (will note down exact avg on next fillup cycle)
    6. YES. Thrice now. Driven 18k kms.
    7. NO MODIFICATIONS
    8. Lahore

If you take your car to hiway and drive at about 60-80 kms/h itll give you around 18km/l.

I am disappointed by average as well. If i use saada petrol the acceleration and average drops down. So using hi octane i get pretty much 2 km/l extra on average. Means i get to drive 70 kms extra (assuming i fill up 35l on gas station trip), which then comes to saving cost of 6l of petrol on every fillup. So i cover cost of using hi-octane over saada petrol.

Sometimes i drive agressively which ruins the average but thats like only 15% of driving on each fillup cycle.

no point wasting money on a full tank of Hi Octane

if the car is producing "Knocking Sound" then its best u put 70% Saada and 30% Hi Octane

    else stick to Saada

City 09 and City 10 (upto June I think) have known issues of knocking in smaller gears. To resolve it; simply visit local Atlas Honda dealers and get the ECU software updated. I think they do it for free!

^^ You should visit the local dealer with the problem. Asking specifically to check you have latest ECU software version. They hook the car with computer and do testing through it.

If your car has done < 5000Km; dont worry; it will improve and might stop doing it. Make sure you are using good lubricant (Honda' lubricant is pathetic) and fuel from some company operated pump. A synthetic lubricant is recommended; they are bit expensive but runs longer so overall cost is same!
