Default 2011 Corolla 1.6L Altis AT / GLI AT

    Hi Fellows:

After reviewing the specifications of recently launched Corolla 1.6L model, I'm initiating this thread for discussing specifically the "Automatic" transmission versions. The two variants discussed here are:

    - 1.6L GLI Automatic
    - 1.6L Altis Automatic

Kindly post your comments / feedback regarding the two variants. Do Not discuss CIVIC or any other Corolla variant.

    Thanks !

The pictures show live fuel consumption. I managed live readings to go upto 29 km/L but that was for some seconds only, the fun part is as u remove ur foot from the accelerator or put the car into neutral the readings go upto 99.9

Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

Are you sure? as the world is moving to 6 gears to keep the rpms low on high ways keeping economy better. Do correct me on it

    who said that? D:
it is perfectly OK to use fifth gear as long as the Engine does not stutter

my iDSI City does 60Km/h on 5th Gear @ less than 2000RPM
its perfectly fine for cruising but if u want to accelerate above 60 then its better to shift down into 4th

if iDSI City can do it then all 1300CC cars can
but do note that if a Car has a redline of 8000RPM then it might not be applicable

since most of the current 1300CC Cars Corolla/iVTEC/iDSI redlines at a modest 6000RPM and achieve higher torque at a comparatively lower RPM

With above discussion; what should one conclude? Having M/T cars you can get better milages (if you want) which might not be possible with A/T cars!

The thread is about Altis A/T and GLI A/T; so wanted to bring perspective

a Car with M/T always has higher performance and better Fuel Economy than its A/T version

+1; and driving expereince of bigger engine M/T cars in city is not that bad. I had this exact conversation with my wife today; she has developed some kind of barrier towards M/T cars and these days I am trying to convince her that we should upgrade her Cuore A/T to Swift

Bigger engines dont mind that much when you have not so proper gear; that can happen driving in city. In past I always enjoyed my dad's M/T SE Saloon and these days I am loving my Civic M/T in city! This why my opinion is that Altis M/T is much better deal than 1.6 GLi A/T; Altis SR M/T is better than Altis A/T and if one can afford or need all kind of badges (status symbol) than go for Altis SR A/T!

If one uses too high a gear at low speeds, there will be tendency for the engine to "snatch" or "jerk" because there is insufficient torque to pull the vehicle. If one always does this, there will be quite a lot
of stress on the driveline in particular and this will result in higher wear and faster failure. However if this happens occasionally, it is not a problem. Do not be fooled into thinking that if you use as little revs
as possible, you will save fuel. The most economical engine speed is when the engine is developing peak
torque, and in a petrol car this may be 3,500 rpm. However if one is driving on a flat road, the torque requirement will be very low, and so one can comfortably run at a lower rpm. without "snatching", and save
fuel but once an obstacle is reached, you will have to change to a lower gear to get more torque to get past it, whether it is a slower car or even a slope in the road
    .

    ^^
i accel my corolla xe from 40 on 5th sometimes with the ac off. its on petrol. no knocking. but is that ok? waisay tou 30 say bhi uth jati hai but 40 is safer. altho i just remembered yesterday the ac was on n it pulled up a slope from abt 38 on 5th. but just a confirmation, does that ruin the drivetrain or other mechanical parts?

corolla is really nice car...n thoz who says this a village car must consider d fact tht thy say this coz its quality is much nicer thn civic n can b gud for ruf roads as well..... compare to civic, tht only gud for flat roads n completly fail in ups n downz :p
Dear Doctor Sb! Corolla is nice but it's quality is much nicer than that of civic?? Any day any time everyone, being neutral, will always vote for Civic.
Yes Civic has been made for roads and in fact every car is made for roads in the world.

2011 Corolla 16L Altis AT GLI AT -262948

Off the 14 distinct features, 9 can be acquired as after-market upgrade (IF required) !
The difference in price is 120K, and only certain upgrades are different.

So, is there any strong reason to opt for ALTIS A/T ?

Whats the total cost of these 9 parts? It must be ~100; so if you can afford "right now" go for Altis A/T; you will get SRS and Cruise Control for free!
