Default fuel average dilemma - but power also needed

    hi guys,

i currently have a 1.3L gli 2010... its a nice car... but pickup is average..especially when RPM drops below 2500rpm...otherwise i like the drive feel and fuel economy. i am getting 12.5km/ltr with AC on at all times within city (driving from pindi to islamabad mostly)...

anyway, my main question is, how much difference will i get in power vs economy if i go for:

    -1.6 Altis
    -1.8 Civic

i want power, and fuel economy. 1.6 altis is hard to find at gud price without paying premium (i cant book car and wait for 3months delivery and cant pay the ON),.....

first have to sell gli and then get new car). so i am tilting more towards civic basic model in manual transmission...

please dont make it corolla vs civic thread...i am only asking what difference in fuel economy of 1.8 civic and 1.3 GLi...that is only question...

    should i go for civic?

The SUB will do what the BOX tells it to do!

not so much difference when ur running is low,
altis will be much better option than civic

IN terms of fuel economy 1.6 Altis 6speed manual is surely better,
Otherwise, Civic is better , but dont expect it doing more than 9km/L in city

1.8 Altis manual is the best bet. Drive it normally and it would give you around 12 km/ltr with A/C. And when you floor it <3

Civic Reborn will give 9-11kms/l. I dont know about Altis but if you want average then go for new city. A member was getting more than 16kms/l. Dont go for Civic base model, it have low resale. Buy,if you buy civic, an oriel.

2006 is a 140HP car. Latest 9th gen corollas had a detuned 130HP engine to improve fuel efficiency. My Altis cruisetronic gives me 10km/ltr EASILY with A/C in city

It did. Even the current shape 1.8 engine is a 140HP engine but is detuned to 130HP. The previous 05-06 Altis had a 140HP engine. If you know engine code, you can check specs online

Altis 1.6 will sure be better in terms of fuel consumption...question is how much better? 3Km/L? If Civic does 13Km/L on highway; Altis 1.6 will be doing 16Km/L...how much you will be saving after driving 20,000Kms? You will be surprised...you will be consuming just 288L of additional fuel and with current rate its just 25k. Divide it to expected number of months you will be doing this much driving...for me its 1250Rs/month. If Civic does 10Km/L; and we assume Altis 1.6 will be doing 13Km/L in city...you will be consuming just 460L of additional fuel i-e 40kRs additional expense. So with Altis 1.6 you probably will be saving somewhere between 25k to 40k (naturally it depends on you) after 20k on ODO. Point is; fuel consumption figures are not that much significant in cars of this > 1.3L and <= 1.8L segment!

I think your fuel cost will be more or less same what you are incurring in GLi...ZR / iVTEC both are better/modern and better in fuel consumption but then you will be jumping from 1.3L to 1.6L/1.8L as well. If you want fuel economy; get "City"; no sedan can beat it in this regard "period"

In my opinion; just forget about "fuel consumption" factor...get what you like more...with which you can live for next 2-3 years each day...

    hmmm..interesting observations.

according to my calculations, if i civic does 10km/lts, my monthly spend will increase by Rs2000 maximum (taking current GLi average of 12.5km/ltr)...

so i guess its not that big of a deal - considering that one gets a more powerful car...

    @mani

yar problem is that 1.8 altis will be used, and i want to go for a zero meter car....

as for 1.6 altis, that is a little difficult to get. i cant wait 3 months (for delivery after booking) cause in that case i will have to sell my gli and wait for altis 1.6 delivery. cant sit without a car that long...and i dont want to pay rs1 lac premium for altis just to get it today...

is civic base model resale really an issue? how big of a problem is it??

    another question...

for how much should i sell my Gli 2010 model?

Its 9200KM driven total. everything is genuine. no modifications at all. even original panels inside are unchanged. no dents or scratches. its just like a showroom car...

has a 2 digit number - islamabad registered.

Civics base model resale is quite low. People prefer the oriel prosmatec version. Anyway its your call. If I were you I would go for Altis manual or if budget permitted 1.8 Altis Cruisetronic. Dont worry, you will easily find couple of 1000km 1.8 Altis in the market (although be ready to pay some premium)

I dont have any idea regarding Islamabad market but it should sell around 1450k or more

Resale of Civic in general is poor than GLi for sure....but is competitive to Altis. Resale of Civic VTi M/T and Civic Oriel Prosmatic is more than other two for natural reasons that one is entry level and the other is top of line. People like you and me will always want entry level and over the time customize it accordingly and people being blessed or who dont care how much they are spending will always go for top of line.

These days in Pakistan everything is going up; you will get what you invest today for sure! Take a look at Honda Civic iVTEC - M/T we discussed resale of this trim in detail there.

Whatever you buy; you should wait a little. Prices are expected to come down from next month due to reduction of sales tax from 16% to 15% (I think) and removal of 2.5% SED. This is obviously subject to approval of budget.

I myself looking for such Altis; my shopping plan for Altis is simple...if Altis 1.8; then only its A/T version due to the presence of Tiptronic. And I will pay whats on the invoice; nothing more (if unregistered). If fail; then simply will book Altis M/T (will not buy Altis A/T due to absence of Tiptronic) and will book in the end of July or in the end of August when dust will be settled down and supplies will be back to normal. Many invested and poor genuine buyers are suffering. Will never pay any premium. Its neither Lamborghini nor the first 1000 or so cars are bearing any "Special Edition" badge that I should pay any premium for.

People selling 1.8 Altis are asking insanely...saw an ad on PW of top of line unregistered Altis 1.8 for 2.3 million. Wohoo, he must have installed gold platted rims or something. Hopefully with price reduction from next month I think many cars will soon land in road side showrooms selling on Invoice Prices.
