    Default Deciding between the "TWO"

    Dear all,

being an automobile enthusiast, I have been lurking around the forum for a while and have seen very active pakwheelers (Thumbs up for that). I was wondering of you guys can help me with my decision.

I have a budget of like 1.8 million (Drag able to 2 Million)

I have narrowed down my choice to two cars

    1. Altis MT 1.6

    2. Civic Oriel MT

Problem with Altis : Though it got a new engine and extra fuel efficiency in its new model but the track record of resald of previous Altis is poor as I have learned it despite the fact that it is the best value for money (2.5 lac lesser then Civic)

Problems with Civic : New model is on its way. It has been released in USA and expected to be released in PAK , mid next year. Honda Atlas is giving 3 month lead time for delivery of current civic (MT version). If i get civic booked now, I will get it in September and the new model will come after couple of months.

Personally, I like both cars. Both have their pros and cons, but above concerned has refrained me from making any decision now.

    1. If I get a Civic now and like to upgrade when new model arrives? How will Civic Oriel MT will depreciate its value keeping in view the fact that new model is a whole new shape.

    2. If I get Altis now, how much will this car depreciates its value after one year approx keeping in view the previous resale track record of Altis

I look forward to your replies and suggestion

    Regards

ok, if you have kept one and still you came back to Manual then its fine, but once you keep an Auto, its pretty hard to adjust yourself on Manual.
By the way, Autos have better resale in Oriel and Altis.
And yes you should look into the new gli 1.6 Auto, essentially it has almost all the things an Altis has, its price is good too 16.50, damn cars are so expensive these days!

Well to tell you the truth, the current shape of the Civic is a lot better as compared to the shape of the 9 Generation Civic which'll be launched in the second or third quarter of 2012. I'd suggest you to only go for the 9 Generation Civic if they offer either the k20a motor or the k24 motor in it otherwise the 8 Generation Civic is 100 times better than the 9 Generation Civic. And as you have already owned the 2011 Honda City, you wont feel any exterior difference between your ex-car and the 9 Generation Civic as they both resemble quiet a lot. Secondly, as the 9 Generation Civic is to be launched in the second or third quarter of 2012, i'd say that you should go for the current Civic and enjoy it as there's around a year left till the 9 Generation Civic's launch and that you can later sell it if you plan to buy the new 9 Generation Civic. And when comparing between the 1.6 Corolla and the 1.8 Civic, it somewhat depends on the way you drive. Because Civic 1.8 gives you the drive of a sporty car and has a stiff suspension while as the Corolla is known for its tough suspension and this's one reason why it gets so many sales in the rural areas. So i'd suggest you to test drive both these cars and then decide because at the end of the day, it'll be you only who has to buy any one of these two cars.

If possible why don't you go for an older version of the two for the time being since your ultimate goal seems to be the new civic. An older version would not lose so much money. Either one

Altis I Believe is gaining the resale value... I've seen people selling their Altis in almost the same price as new... Altis on other hand is a better value for the price... The features and the then the latest shape... I believe at this particular point of time, altis wins in all aspects...

If you are so much conscious about resale The GLI AT is the real deal.I am sure when you will sell it next year,it will have same value as 1.3 GLI.
Otherwise Altis offers very much value for money more than GLI AT.
Civic is not feasable at this point. After spending 2 million on a car which will get old in only 5 months is not good.
My advise is to buy GLI AT if you want resale otherwise Altis MT .
It has 6 speed MT and very good fuel economy

Exactly my point ! I am a Civic fan but spending so much on something that will be considered outdated in a few months.
Personally, I am not an AT fan !

Now tell me what to do

In Pakistan nothing goes for peanuts these days with human life as an exception.

If the top of the line variant costs 24 lacs of 9th Generation Civic then the top of the line variant of 8th generation will easily go for +20 lacs.

    Ill suggest Altis...why?

Manual Civic donnot has 'that good' resale. Altis will loose lesser money due to 'new shape' and being the 'hot cake' in the market.
No wonder you will get bored with it in no time, after that you can go for 9th generation civic by adding some lacs.

I second. Even then the 8 Gen Civic will be a lot better than the 9 Gen Civic in terms of design, it'll only be a better buy over the 8 Gen Civic if they put a more powerful engine under its hood, not the usual R18a. So go for the 1.8 Civic. You'll surely love it.

Khe khe khe , On a serius note, im not liking it people are actualy walking away from Honda, I dont see a bright Honda future somehow. Honda should reconsider the 1.6L (its being offered in Malaysia nd thailand) If it increases sales whats rong with it, They should seriusly reconsider. God knows whos the who people are marketing for Honda Pakistan.
Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

@umair: go for the GLI new varient --- when the civic new arrives --- sell the GLI and move to the civic. --- The GLI will give you a good resale even if you are in the stone age --- LOL ... but no doubt it will

since you have sold the car, this way the GLI will cover up for your time, investment and switch point. Good Luck

    Dear Umair
There are lots of reason for you to buy Altis 1.6 rather then Civic MT.

    1. On highway Altis is better due to its softer ride.
    2. Fuel economy is better
    3. better on CNG
    4. Better resale as old Altis resale was not good due to fuel economy
    5. Shape newly changed and will be there for 2 to 3 years alteast
    6. Six speed gear box, will give you fun & economy together.
