do not mangle your car with add ons unless you are well versed with Hitachi electrics. (just understanding the headlights circuit will give you or any electrician a headache) Get the car operating correctly and reliably should be your first priority - if it has ever been cooled with plain water prepare to spend about Rs 12,000/- (this is before 2009 pricing) on the water pump/oil pump assembly. When it fails its not like other cars that water leaks out and your engine overheats - in this engine water mixes with oil from the pump and you and up with a very dead engine.

When you do replace the water pump (water body) and oil pump assembly always use proper branded coolant of the right concentration in it along with a proper thermostat valve. The little car is fantastic to drive but can become a nightmare if you dont take care of it.

Put the rest accessory stuff for later - firstly check the water pump/oil pump assembly and if its run on plain water and the radiator is rusted or corroded - be prepared for a big job and a big bill.

The car is beautifully solid and heavy duty by itself - dont try to make it ricey.

don't rice this beauty. it's good the way it is. just add a simple cd player, decent speakers, decent alloys and you're done. personally i consider it a sin to rice this car or do any obnoxious alterations on it. if u still want to rice, sell this car and buy a suzuki fx or mehran.

^^ The rice would be useless if you end up in a hole when the engine water pump gives up and you end up with a dead engine.

I think you are not fully grasping the concept of its failure - go ask your favourite mechanic about how a subaru 3 cyl water pump is tied to the engine oil pump. Spend your money wisely - when the engine/tranny/electrics are top notch - go ahead with all the ricing you want.

These cars were the cheap cars of choice for my very old college and neighborhood freinds - they would buy them as dead cases and I would make them work. Similarly a freind bought a Subaru Sedan and he got a very cheap bargain - after some parts from S'pore the car was very very reliable - almost industrial strength, It was very bland from the inside - but Fuji Heavy Industries spent all the money where it matters the most.

ENGINE, TRANNY, STEERING, SUSPENSION, BRAKES and a rock solid BODY - the kind that when you close the door it THUDS shut like a 124 mercedes.

a little hint on Subaru quality - even the little justy used a heavy duty all metal copper radiator (the best heatsink) from the factory, most of them were swapped out by our "radiator wala shops" as copper is quite a bit more expensive than brass and aluminium. The owners who didnt care - got duped.

Only in Pakistan can such a good car be wasted. An engine that is actually based off the suzuki G10 but beefed up by subaru utilising an iron block, forged crankshaft, heavy duty con rods with pass through bolts and locknuts, semi forged piston with full floating pin design. Added balance shafts to smooth out the engine revs.

I had j10 in the past its a veryyy good car and people make all kind of excuses but if you know how to maintain your car i felt this was the best 1000cc car around.

The engine got very good torque I remember my younger bro use to beat vitz with this old J10. We swapped its engine with its original engine and the engine we found was as sound as new. My brothers use to drive that car for an avg 100 to 150 km everyday.

Sadly here people swap suburu parts with charade to make it work i mean if you dig a little harder you will find all subaru parts in junk yards when i had Subaru i knew all people who had suburu parts...

    Default skilled advice required

Dear All subaru 93-94 users. i am using subaru J10 since 1994, and once i have gor the engine rebuild. Now heat up problems are very frequent, coil resistor is not available suitable for the car, and realy have gone sick of its engine, i find there is no cure of this problem, anyhow, please tell me on my email article.islamabad@gmail.com or call me on phone, i need the answers of the following.
Right engine for subaru, choices are cultus EFi 1.0l, swift DLX 1.3L engine, baleno 1.3L engine. Which engine should i buy?
Name and address of best mechanic who can install the engine, even EFI engine in Rawalpindi, Islamabad.
Name and address of best mechanic who can fix air conditioner, and can clean dasboard, meters from inside.
Best person, who can fix suspension.
Latest prices of above mentioned engines.

I realy want to make changes and conversions in the car, so much so, in speed it can easily touch complete meter which is 180 very easily on motorway or anywhere. I need the name and address of best mechanic in Rawalpindi, Islamabad who can install EFI system.

I just want to throw away old subaru 3 cylinder engine, instead have a new preferable 1300cc twin cam 16 valve EFI engine.

Friends i repeat again, please let me know the name of the best, expert in alterations, that any change done doesnt look like a change and it instead looks original.

My number is 03153067897, my name is muhammad tashfeen
