    Default Car selection

    Hi,
I am looking for a sedan. Early on, I was very much interested with buying a brand new Nissan Sunny, but the attitude of Ghandhara Nissan people changed my mind (govt. offices type attitude). Now, I have limited my choices to these:

    1. Brand new manual Honda City
    2. Brand new Corolla Xli
    3. Used Corolla Gli
    4. Used Honda Civic

This car would be used as a second car, and it will be used for family purposes only, so no daily long routes. Also, I do not plan to change this car as long as it runs trouble free.

The pros and cons for each of them in my opinion are:

    1. Brand New Honda City Manual:
    Pros:
    1. Features comparable to that of Corolla Gli
    2. Smaller as compared to Corolla therefore, more fuel efficient and better running. Size complements the 1300cc engine.
    Cons:
    1. Black interior
    2. Bad shape (in my own opinion)
    3. Smaller to Corolla

    2. Brand New Toyota Corolla Xli
    Pros:
    1. Good resale (although this ain't my highest priority
    2. Cheap maintenance
    3. More spacious
    Cons:
    1. No features (and it sucks! ...I end up paying 14 lacs for a car and it doesn't even have power windows)
    2. Very attractive for car lifters
    3. Larger body therefore, it will be a compromise on performance
    4. No color choice (only black or white)
    3. Used Corolla Gli
    Pros:
    1. Feature loaded
    2. Less attractive for car lifters (being a used car)
    Cons:
    1. Used car, so there is a chance of getting some problems soon
    2. Limited Insurance
    Used Civic
    Pros:
    1. Best car among the mentioned cars
    2. 1800cc engine giving a very nice drive
    3. Nice interior
    Cons:
    1. Only 4-5 year old models are affordable
    2. Costly maintenance

I will run my car on petrol. Also my budget is around 15lac.

You summed up all the things pretty nicely.(That's what I like about you).
If I were you, I would have gone for New City due to Excellent Mileage, but you said you don't like its shape(I don't too),so you will have to increase your budget a liitle bit to go for new Gli.Xli shouldn't be considered due to no value for money.Civics are mostly abused, very difficult to find a good one.Personally,I don't see any wisdom buying a used car in Pakistan due to misuse by drivers/underage drivers, meter reversing etc.

If you can't increase your budget,go for new City and the shape will gradually grow on you.

8th gen civic rocks.. if u find a good 3-4 years old car and well maintained. it will give u no probs till 3 to 4 more years. And about GLI. it is also a good option but too much expensive.
City is very much reasonable for you. you get all the features like GLI in it and all other things u mentioned. Believe me when u will get this car. u il start loving it. i was also confused when i was buying it due to its interior. but now it changed my mind. and about space. trunk of honda city is more spacious leg room is also reasonable. a perfect car for a family. so after civic i will advice u to go for Honda city.
Now choice is urs. what u like to buy.

City over XLi....City feels like smaller car; but its more roomy from inside than XLi/GLi. Some will not agree; but Alhamdulillah I kept the both and expereinced it first hand. City's front seats are bit higher (due to fuel tank underneath) and some people dont like it like my mom who has joint pains; she found it difficult to sit in front seat; but no complaints about back seats. No sedan can beat City's fuel consumption. Very important factory these days. Its A/C is much chiller than XLi/GLi and its got the biggest trunk!

City over Used GLi...For one reason or the other; used Corolla sellers demand insanely; and its much better to get new City and get 3 years / 70k warranty and first 15k drive with FREE inspections. City's total cost of ownership is much lower than GLi.

If going for Civic; try to find Civic iVTEC M/T and without CNG, you should be able to find a clean unit in this budget; Auto Civics give pathetic fuel consumptions; especially in city (second car / family use scenarios). Civic build quality is better than City for sure

If some driver will be using this second car....go for XLi (and only XLi)

Usually females mix up clutch and accelerator; if there will be an auto car in the house as second car, they will learn quick and in case of emergency will be able to use it...City-AT is the best choice!

    City M/T average is best.
Easily fetch 15km in city driving and 17 to 19km on highways.
With AC,the mileage 2 or 3 kms more or less.

whatever u buy, get a brand new car. second hand cars have usually reversed meters and you can never judge the condition of their shocks and all. so better buy a new car. since u will be running car on petrol, i would suggest new city m/t. simply because it gives best fuel average among all the cars u mentioned.
also with xli/gli there is a long waiting period for delivery and u may have to pay own. with city u can get it within a month. my aunt just booked a m/t city and they dealer promised it just after Eid.
Whatever u choose to buy, try to get new car. It is very hard to find a good used car. I myself bought a 2009 cuore this year. the car has perfect engine but just a month after the purchase there was some suspension problem and i ended up replacing the whole suspension (front and back). these problems you can never judge. You budget is mashallah 15 lakhs, so why get a used car. Get a new one. Just my opinion though.

i had experienced the same situation with same budget n i was confused but..... finally brand new honda city was the car i opted for (civic was my 1st choice but i was not satisfied as it would had been a second hand car)....ALHAMDULLILAH i am quite satisfied with my new city and it is more spacious den a civic or gli... the only con is the low quality black interior which is very hard to maintain
