Default REason for success of Xli ??

    Dear All!
Can anybody please tell why Xli had been selling and to some extent still selling like hot cakes despite the fact that it has no power features, No ABS, Air bags etc. To me! it's ridiculous for a 1.3 L car not to have even power windows but why people still love it or buy it more than any other 1.3 L car??

For me having harder suspension was no issue; I rather loved how it gives the feedback to the driver...so why XLi? During the duration I kept it; yes I had to drive it to places where it could give issues to my passengers; but I choosed my routes accordingly; that were longer BUT it gives "MUCH BETTER" fuel consumption and "MUCH BETTER" acceleration; no one noted; rather enjoyed its "MUCH BETTER" chilling A/C all day long...

By reading all the braking complaints - it seems that everyone wants their corolla to stop within 20 ft at 100 km/h.

anyways - the reason you see it being driven the most is because most off market (read stolen and smuggled) parts are cheaply available, and hence no hard work in repairs, just throw out the assys and replace with another, no guess work.

as everyone in Pakistan is a car dealer wannabe - they will buy this famous eskalai in the name of resale and because the manufacturer knows that they are selling to a bunch of "I LOVE MY TOYOTA" people who will draw theiir weapons on its "izzat" they have nothing to worry about. Infact if I were in marketing of Indus, I would have removed some more comforts in the name of profit, because its an understood fact that people will still buy it -

I would even rename the corolla XLi to Escalaye and introduce a model with factory installed black ribbon and baby shoe on the back tow hook, a peshawar edition too with naswaar dibbi in place of the ashtray.

And it would sell even faster than samosay 10 minutes before aftaar.

XLI here in balochistan is used as taxi to travel from city to city parts are easily available and the car is cheap in corolla category. Many of my cousins and frnds did bought XLI but they sold them within a week.
+1..he can never understand...he is at no 1 spot in the ranking of haters of honda...i think he personally knows xli dabba is not better than city..

do not call me an expert - it takes a lifetime to be called an expert.. anyway, about the question - I rank the corolla and civic on equal terms - they are similarly built - to be good small sized sedans, my choice for sturdy build quality is Nissan - the Sunny is made on one principle - simplicity and longevity AND it offers good leg room for me (im 6'5")

however when I was in Pk - I had a cowrolla too in my house, 1.6 Saloon. I didnt drive it much because it had the world's most idiotic seats that gave me a backache and I looked like a goof trying to get out of it.

Isnt it lovely how the thread has shifted from its topic to people yelling at each other, driving skills, brake problems and finally the great honyota war.

Tell me about it...you're saying that about people who value even free items above their lives. (front) seat belts come on almost all mid sized sedans but people proudly tell you how they put it BEHIND them to "fool the police".

Seat belts are the first thing people take off as soon as they exit a motorway. I have seen people put their helmets on their laps while riding a bike to put it on just before a check point and then take them off as soon as they cross the check point.

So who gives a damn about ABS or airbags, let alone pay for it, when they wont even wear a seat belt?

Most of our actions are our reaction to other people actions, in behavioral science this is called as “Bandwagon effect”, irrespective of the underlying evidence(s), in micro economics it has greater importance, the above “effect” is also used in marketing

People from my generation will remember that when we were at school there was a trend that son will go to be a engineer and daughter be a doctor, nothing else!

This has great effect in our live, so people if they are buying what others are buying is quite normal because we are following a particular set of mind and not using our own!
    also read, Veblen effect,
If better were within, better would come out.
