How can you say that Honda's aren't strong and durable? Civic has been one of the best choice of tuners around the world and there are less number of souped up Corolla's when compared to that of Civic. I have seen 95 Civic's running h22, b16 etc motors. Had they not been strong and durable, we wouldn't have been seeing them on roads. And as far as your '87 Corolla which has clocked 6 lac km's in 24 years is concerned, please check @Airomerix's Cousins 8 Gen. Honda Civic which has clocked 3lac+ Km's in just 4 years and without any problem.

one clean vti oriel is waaaaaaa'y better than the se saloon.
i would even prefer '03 or '04 ones over the 05 saloon..

i also have driven both, civics are alot better in drive, style, power and THE FEEL...
mileage is more or less the same.

Just a regular oil change after every 3 months and the usual oil changes such as ATF, PSF etc. which is no different than maintaining any other Corolla. So you are saying that you don't need to change the oils in a Corolla and it still keeps on running? Or Corolla Owners have some other meaning of 'maintenance'?

Let me tell you a thing. The cars which were built in olden times such as the 80's, 90's etc. had a more strong body but in the case of an accident, the car absorbed very little impact and the major part of the impact was felt by the passengers inside it which lead to casualties and serious injuries. Now on the other hand, as time has passed and more research has been done, the cars these days have lighter bodies so that in the case of an accident, the major part of the impact is absorbed by the car rather than it being felt by the passengers. Thus, the passengers remain more safe in the case of an accident.

Try doing the same thing with a 9 Gen Corolla or any other new car and then you'll see what happens. Newer car's need more maintenance because of newer technology.

hondas vtec is very very complicated technology so it effects its relaibility nit requires lots of maintanance and lot more than 9th g corolla.

@OP As you are not going for a new vehicle, so first find both in good condition and drive them both. In which you feel satisfied buy it. Because here Honda vs Corolla fight will never end. To some Corolla is good and to some Honda is good. It vary from person to person.

    Talking about both used

Drive: SE Saloon is better if you've driven Corolla earlier otherwise Civic is much better in drive.
Comfort: SE Saloon is better. Civic have stiff suspension.
Reliability: Both are more or less same.
Mileage: Again no big difference. It depends on how the previous owner maintained his ride
Verdict: Its purely your requirement and choice to what you opt for

@others please help him rather then confusing him and fighting with each other
