Question Can I get a car under 2 lacs budget?

    Salam evry1!!!
im nt new on pw, actually I had an account in 2008 (it wz much diff dat time, mashAllah kafi imprv & attractive ho giya ha pakwheels) bt coudn’t uz it regularly bkz of bz life. So I 4got ma uzr name & password

Nw im back 2 learn 4rm senoirz & share my xperience abt vehicles.
So bros! I’ve been on 2 wheeler (Honda 70) for yrs, nw im planing 2 get my 1st 4wheeler. I hd a dream 2 get Japani 660cc Alto in 2006, bt u knw dreamz r dreamz. In reality, I’ve managed 2 save 170,000 rupees only. dats embarrassment, I cheked da market, Sunday bzarz, adz n newz paperz & pakwheelz az well. But I unable 2 find a gud ride in dis budget. I vizited sm dealerz & wen I told thm I had just 1.7 lacs, many start laughing. Othrz showed me sm super rusted n accidnted FX nt acceptable 4 me.

I askd ma frndz & relativez 4 openion, many sugst me 2 w8 untill I get at least 2.5 lacks evn 4 a 20+ yrs old car in gud condition. Othrz say I can get Khi No FX in gud condition n dis range.
I’d prefer da 1st advice, but derz a problem. My sister goez 2 university n van, nt 2 far 4rm my office. nd total cost of bike petrol and van chargz r much more thn total CNG cost if v both uz personal car. plus our family need a car bkz geting a taxi z xpnsive nd uncomfortable.

I’ve searchd da markt nd found:
1: Suzuki Mehran 2000 & dwn model in perfect condition 250,000 plus
2: FX in good condition (privately uzd bkz der r too many taxiz) 200,000 minimum
3: Charade 84-86; 200,000 to 250,000 (I can gt diesel version in less than 200,000 bt 1 thing I can’t afford diesel nd othr even if I destry my budget 4 disel, still ppl say charad diesel z "Queen of troublez" so it’z out of my choice)
    4: Charad 81-82 da oldest model z under 150,000
    5: Swift/Khybr 89 to 90 in nrmal condition 200,000 +
6: Subaro also rangz frm 160,000 to 230,000 but its back lites cost u more than 6000 and wind screen12000!!! (meanz dis car can destry my life)
7: Toyota Starlet 74 (or may b 78) good condition 170,000 but it givz jst 13-14 kilometers in 1 kg CNG in city areaz. & ppl say parts r nt available so ezly.

So only option no 4 fits in my requirement but ppl say der r vry few carz in gud condition and if I get a Mehran in 180,000 I can mak it new aftr spnding 40 to 50 thousandz. But if I get charad 82 for 120,000, evn aftr spnding 100,000 the car wd be uzless. Thy say "ye gadi tum se khati rahe gi aur end me tumare paas bike k paisy bhi nai bachen ge".
    I need ur advice!
    Regards,
    (Ali)

Some people say after few years no parts of FX would be available in kabadi market so is for dado 84 charade, so i should go for Mehran...

I've checked the market and pw for sale section, but still confused!

It is very helpful if someone can give me some post links related to car restoration (of charade, mehran and fx etc) on pakwheels.com, not more than 1 year old. Actually i don't have much time left after office and other social activities to search
I dont think so that parts will not be available & you don't need kabadi parts for FX because you can get new ones at the same price so why buy used when you can get new & if you really want to for FX the only go for Japanese the one with round lights a black dash board.

My motive is to cause awareness in right direction by hook or crook.

    Its reverse phycology.

Leave an error for intelligent ones to find it.

    @Ali_Shah

Get yourself a Karachi registered car, there are No issues with Karachi registration, the whole Sindh is running on Karachi numbers.

My advise is to go for a Mehran or a Khyber, you can get a car in good running condition in 1.75 lac rupees from Karachi, the model will be old but it will be in OK running condition.

    Unhappy Sorry for late reply!!!

I’m sorry guys, I had a big personal trouble, couldn’t use internet for weeks. Well, now it’s okay, and I’m back on my task. I have seen some cars on Sunday Bazars and newspaper ads, but I’m still confused between Suzuki FX and Charade G11 (1984). Both cars are available in my range. People say FX repair costs cheaper but it breaks down very frequently, where Charade is xpensive on maintenance but is bit tougher and can bear bumpy jumpy roads Thanks all for nice & professional opinion but I still need more advice.

    Please tell me these things:

Personally I like Charade more than FX. But I need comfort (and safety bkz I’m on two wheeler at the moment), not headache and financial trouble! I know it’s okay to spend 300 to 500 rupees for minor work every month, but not more than that for 1000 to 1200 kilometers per month (now I’m careful with math’s and English )

I have some confusion as follows:

    > I have seen many Charades; most of the cars have a problem with front wheel. It doesn’t look balanced. I mean charade 84 ka front wheel center k bajaye bilkul mudguard k saath laga hota ha, and the car is either bended to engine side or trunk side, may be due to shocks problem. Everyone tells the different story, some says it’s because they’re using a smaller rim, otherwise it would fit genuinely in the center. Other says, “charade ka front wala hisa Suzuki ka laga hota ha with alteration, original nai aa raha ya bohat mehnga ha, es lea gadi balance nai hoti & front wheel peeche laga hota ha”. Now I want to know, what is the real problem? Those who’re familiar with this car must know the issue.

    > Many cars under 180,000 have broken bumpers, head and tail lights and front grills etc. I want to know whether these things of Charade 83-84 & 85-86 are available from Cha Sultan, and some idea about price. Some people say both bumpers cost more than 20,000 and pair of head and rear lights for 12,000, is it true? It’d really help if someone can share his experience with these parts and phone numbers of body parts dealer in Pindi!

    > Some idea about mechanical and electrical works of this car. Please share your experience and it’s very helpful if you can give me the link to a recent restoration project of Charade 84, not the newer models.

    > Last thing, fuel economy on petrol and CNG in city (in kilo per kms please, I get nothing from x kilometers per cylinder because I’m phd in mathematics )

Now I need your precious (but professional ) opinion. After that, I’ll make a decision and share my car on pw InshAllah!
    Regards!

Question Let me share two extreme stories :o

I talked it with my relatives and friends; here I’d like to share two of these extreme stories.

    Happy ending

He is my school time fellow; he bought a Mitsubishi Lancer 1986 model in 177,000 in 2009. He spent 18,000 for wiring, steering and other mechanical works just after he bought it.
The car run like a new car, but after three months, he had to change all rims and tire, total 20,000 rupees (co$t also include new seat covers and interior service). And finally 2500 Rupees more for CNG setting and front wheel disk repairing etc, total ~ 218,000 Rupees. It has been two years now, the car is running perfect. No more trouble other than some minor works like generator belt broken, or self-starting problem 200 to 300 Rupees per month. Engine starts in first turn on CNG even in winters, and most amazing thing this guy also visit Muree twice a month. He rarely uses petrol, CNG all the times and he is happy with this car. Really amazing because they say old Mitsubishis are very notorious for giving troubles. And this is not just a story, he’s my close friend and I’ve seen this car, faded paint and dents but run like a new car.

    Sad ending
This is my ex colleague, he had Metro 70 motorbike. After increase in salary, he got a Suzuki Mehran 1997 model in green color in 220,000. It worked fine for two months, then rear axle started troubling, he fixed it. Soon after that, steering wheel broken, then clutch plates, front axle. Just after 5 months, radiator changed. Then plug short, silencer broken, wiring had to be changed. 8 months after purchase, again clutch plate + pressure plate burnt. Finally, in June 2011, the engine started smoking and oil appeared in radiator! The mechanic told him the engine had gone! As he had already spent more than 50,000 (270,000 total cost) rupees so far, he decided to sell the damn car. He finally sold it for 205,000 and bought a new Honda CD 100 again. He says he’ll never buy a used car again. This is very sad because Mehran is cheaper in maintenance and unlike my friend, he never went outside Pindi-Islamabad.
If I go after my friend, I must buy a charade. But if I get “lesson” from 2nd story, I never do this mistake. I don’t know whether it depends on luck or experience!

And the Blue indication light on ur speedometer denotes "High Beams"

I would, if I have at least one car at home, you know how bad it feels when you have to go somewhere with your family but taxi is not available

Thanks for opinion, but it's even expensive; more than 2.5 lac and expensive parts and repairs

Have you got one or still searching...

I looked a good Charade 84 (hi-roof) but the owner was not willing to sell below 195,000 and a mechanic told me it needed suspension work around 15 t0 20 thousands.

All four of us learned driving on it and it was also used by the driver. I got full rights on that car in 1999 at the age of 18. It used to have 100 rupees petrol in the tank which would end suddenly because of bad gauge. I would rotate the filter upside down to get to the nearest pump and then it would misfire because of all the kachra that made its way into the carb. i would then swap two plug wires to clean it, worked every time. In 2001 i spend 30k on it and got it painted and got the engine rebuilt since two of its three plugs had adapters installed because of oil seepage in to the plugs. To my bad luck may be i didnt chose the right workshop the car didnt run very well and i started encountering frequent problems with almost everything.

Sold it for 65k and bought a 95 mehran in 2002 it was great, got it for 145k and installed CNG for 22k used it for 3 years and sold it for 162k. Spent literally nothing - Zero maintenance, great AC worked like a charm on CNG it was red in color and faded. I once drove it 25 KM with AC without a radiator cap. It stalled but started once cooled down after adding water. No Gasket Damage! Sold it in 2005 and bought a new alto drove it a 150k and sold it in 2010.

    Moral of the story -
    - You can get a car for 150k
    - You will have problems
    - You'll to learn ways to solve them
    - Requires patience and time
    - Its not like buying a pedestal fan that'll work forever

    My suggestion/Advise
    - Get a Mehran, Get one that is non accidented and with decent engine - It would do the job

keep rest of your money in an envelope with car budget written on it. Don't go around spending it on toi toi alarm system, fancy chrome crap or dicho dicho sound system. Save it so that when your car needs that money you can use it freely instead of delaying repairs cuz of shortage of funds. 30 - 40k is alot of money for a mehru. try to acquire a 92 onwards model, you'll have to search everywhere to find a good car and it will a back breaking job. Don't worry if its LHR/ISB or KHI registered. You need a reliable ride in your budget, whocares about the registration ? It may have low resale but then again you will also be buying it at a lower cost so won't really make much difference.

    Wish you best of luck!
toi toi alarm system.....dicho dicho sound system......mehru
