Fast cars and loose fiscal morals: there are more Porsches in Greece than taxpayers declaring 50,000 euro incomes

Fast cars and loose fiscal morals (Same as Pakistan) - porsche cayenne

Jubilation about the German deal to save the euro could prove short-lived if fresh news of Greek tax evasion gains wider currency. There are more Porsche Cayennes registered in Greece than taxpayers declaring an income of 50,000 euros (£43,800) or more, according to research by Professor Herakles Polemarchakis, former head of the Greek prime minister’s economic department.

owning a Porsche anywhere outside of Pakistan is not simply leasing or buying it, The insurance premiums on such cars will make you cry. Then comes in the road tax (if they are categorized by fuel intake).

e.g. even here in the US an SRT-8 Dodge Challenger 6.1 litre has a $1500 annual gas guzzler tax apart from everything else. Insuring the damn thing is a $$$$ too.

Obviusly it pays nothing, They dont need to pay taxes they are the goverment. The cars they buy are also 16% GST free.

seriously the cars which they have they should have been paying double tax on it.

last month i send some milk to pakistan and guess what they have charged 60% gst and 5% import duty and it was explicitely written on the invoice and custome papers that this is for the consumption of visiting baby in Pakistan. what a low moral givernment and i believe 60% gst charged will go to Mr.z''z new purchase.

^ Nops, As far i as when i checked last time, the cars bought by the goverment to use by there employees, state departments (Police etc) are invoiced tax less.

I never talked about the Fbr head or president of Pakistan. Just talking about localy made stuff, Maybe the imported stuff they use is also duty free.

Mostly they claim that thoose cars/Jeeps are gifts from Saudi sheikhs.

Just think about it, - Why would you pay something to your own self?

Reading the full article (the source you didn't mention, 2C), it looks like it's probably a case of blatant tax evasion... plus a lot of other things. I think just like in Pakistan, a lot of these people in the city of Larissa haven't declared their income on their taxes, which apparently is a lot considering they're the city with the highest number of Porsche Cayenne's in the world.

Now, why an agricultural city with a somewhat low population has that many Porsche's... that's a pretty big wonder.

The ones that the state buys for themselves and are registered to the state are tax exempt.

A civil servant's personal car however has to be purchased the usual way.

When 70% of Pakistan will not pay any taxes and can have more income than the budget of the country - of course it will happen.

The news piece is actually an eye opener for the current financial noose around the euro. And tax evasion is a serious offense unlike Pakistan where it is considered elitist and pomp and sometimes admired too.
