    Question OBD II Scanner Information

    Dear All,

I need answer to following Question

    1. Is our 8th Generation Civic is OBD II certified ?

    2. I am trying to import an OBD scanner for 8th Generation Civic, I have come across couple of options

    a. Ultra Gauge ( UltraGauge Automotive Information Center and OBDII Scan Tool )
    Video :- UltraGauge, a mini-review - YouTube

    b. Kiwi MPG ( PLX Kiwi MPG - MPG Meter, Trip Computer, Engine Check Scan Tool, OBD2 OBDII Gauge )
Video :- PLX Kiwi MPG - MPG Meter, Trip Computer, Scan Tool, OBDII OBD2 Gauges - YouTube

    c. Scan Gauge ( ScanGaugeE : Linear Logic - Home of the ScanGauge )

    3. Please guide me that if they all are compatible with 8th Gen Civic and which of them is more reliable and easy to use.

Also, tell me if you have something better. I will Appreciate the concern.

    Cheers

Check your car for the DLC port. It should be under the driver side dash somewhere. Other PW members will better guide you. If its a 16 pin port, then you're good to go. Any OBD2 scanner (CAN based) will work just fine. If it's not 16pin, then you need to find an adequate adapter.

A safer bet is using OBD2-ELM327 scanners, which are compatible with most vehicles.

For my Civic 99, the DLC port has 3 pins and is located with the ECU (passenger side kick panel).

A Bluetooth enabled scanner will provide greater flexibility in the type of displays you need... for example, it can connect to your car pc or an app on your iphone or android smartphone. Personally I prefer a BT OBD2-ELM327 scanner.

All of the scanners you have listed are compatible. It is just a matter of what functionality and display options you want from your scan tool. I prefer to set my own display options therefore ultragauge and scangauge seem too limited plus they are wired directly to the ecu and i dont like visible wires/cables in my car.

If you're okay with wired units, get ultragauge if you want more information displayed at a time; or scangauge II if you want a more disrcrete display.

Not an expert myself, but I've been looking around myself for one of these... and I decided on a BT tool... or if that doesnt work, then Ultragauge.

    Thanks @xsxd

The dongle you suggested is goof but the problem is you gona need a smart phone for it. I needed something dedicated.

Wired device is not my first preference also, If I can find something dedicated, some stand alone Bluetooth Module .... That will serve the purpose.

here's a thought... if you can put up a cradle/mount for a 7" device, get a cheap android device (APad etc) for roughly 15,000 and install "Torque" on it. I saw a decent device with a capacitive touchscreen (looks a lot better and is a lot more responsive).

Otherwise you can find a suitable place for Ultragauge, drill up your dash a bit, and neatly fix up the tool while hiding all wires within the dash.

Bro the civic is with Honda's Offered Navigation so there is no place left but I will like to know more about Apad etc

I think I pod would be a better option then Apad, if someone is spending 15K.

Some Device like UltraGauge with a Bluetooth Interface would be perfect !

stick to ultragauge then. an expensive technique wud be the replace your navi system with something that can use software like centrafuse. but that's a long shot if you dont know what you're doing.

Apad is a chinese android tablet. the one i saw was with a 7" capacitive screen. 800mhz but its more than enuff for a car pc unless HD content is required. Rs.15,000. Havent tried it though. I assume it has battery issues like all the other chinese devices.

I second the Bluetooth OBDII ELM327 option. I've been using it for quite some time now, and it's really handy for clearing fault codes on the go, and pretty much gives you an active realtime telemetry on your engine. Probably the best $25 (in total) I've spent!

For that you need to have an Iphone first and it is not a dedicated tool. No doubt that it is good but I need something dedicated.

check OLX or similar websites... i recall seeing an ELM327 scanner for 9000 (which is too pricey IMO).
