Have kept Diesel cars for Last 5~6 years (Fiat Uno 1.7D & Nissan Sunny 2.0D) Maintenance related to engine was relatively zero & i used to change Oil, Oil filter, Feul filters & air filters every 5000Km. Fuel consumption & performance was excelent. But experties of mechanics on deisel motor is still a question mark here in Pakistani market. Though the Diesel price is 100 Rs per liter & Petrol is 90Rs but still a good condition 2 liter diesel will give better economy, reliability, & plessure drive as compare to its Petrol counter part.

When you are buying petrol corolla xli good clean one you will spend around 10.50 lacks.

When you are buying diesel then you will spend 8 lacks max.

People say get oil changed at 2500km well fk that get it changed at 5000km not a big deal

Lets say you buy a 80,000km driven corolla diesel you change its oil at 2500km engine will last for 300,000 km and if you change at 5000km engine will last for 200,000km. Whats the big deal unless you give your car on rent.

Most people hardly drive 80,000 to 100,000km in around 4 to 5 years.

Now basic thing is that you are considering diesel because you are getting it really cheaper then petrol models well go for it not a big deal. Just buy it enjoy it for 5 years etc.

Even if desi ustad jee experiments with your car it will last for 200,000.

No rocket science just buy the car.

You will probably get new one after 5 years or after 5 years throw in a petrol engine which are dirt cheap.

Even well lets say diesel is expensive to maintain well whats the big deal you are looking at extra rs1000 or rs2000 per month.

Sorry for being off topic as the discussion is about 20D corolla, but since there're are lot of experts, I need your suggestions.

Is it good to buy a charade (turbo/non-turbo) diesel economy wise?

People say stay away from it, because charade diesel engine is the most difficult engine to fix once it starts troubling. timing belt, fuel pump and lot of other things need to be change at least twice a year even if you drive less.

However, some factors attract me a lot for this car:

    1) Fuel economy, the car goes 22 kmpl in city without AC, it's confirmed! so the fuel cost at present is 4.5 rupees per km. While running mehran on petrol is around 7 rs per kilometer, again confirmed because my office fellow has mehran 97.

    2) Looooooooooooooonggggggggg Qs on CNG stations! Diesel pumps are empty, it takes no time to fill up, and what they say, "time is money"

    3) These cars are cheaper than CNG mehran, khyber and charade. I've seen some good cars around 1.5 to 1.8 lac and even very nice cars not more than 2 lac

    4) Last but not least, i get 100% free trunk space! and less load on rear axle because of no CNG cylinder.

So if I get a good condition diesel charade in 1.3 to 1.5 lac range, shall I buy it?
    Regards,
    Ali

    Note:

    * I don't drive more than 40-45 (max 50) kms per day. Means need to change oil after 60 days?

    * I'm very inexperienced, learned a lot from pakwheels but no practical experience of fixing old cars

    * my budget is also tight, can't spend thousands every month for mechanical works
