Default Suzuki Swift DLX 2012 - Known Problems & Solutions

    Assalam o Alaikum Dear Friends

InshAllah I am going to purchase the New Suzuki Swift 2012 DLX in next few days (actually not given any other option and kind of forced into buying it) so really need HELP from the people who have Direct and Indirect experience of New Swift.

Guys please share your info about the Known Problems that New Swift "got" / "will encounter" in its first few months and how can we resolve it in best possible manner. Also what parts shall I change to make this car perform better for next 2 to 3 years.

I am really not a technical guy and really don't want to be played or cheated by the car mechanics so I am here posting this text to seek the sincere and honest help and guidance of this forum members.

Hi alivijdan! Plz check viscosity of your Engine Oil, Because High Viscocity Engine Oils increase fuel consumption. High viscocity engine oils are thick and pistons require more power to move in thick engine oil increasing fuel consumption.

Also maintain your tire preasure according to data which is given on metal plate near drivers place, you can see that plate with driver's door open. Actually a metal plate between front and back door at drivers side is present on which tire inflation preasures are mentioned.

Use mixture of Petrol and High Octane.

Hope these three steps will increase your car's fuel average.

    1. Minor Sound after releasing clutch something like dry spring
    2. Minor tuck sound if i push hard pedal on low RPM on low gears

if any one encounter these issue please guide me

    Thanks
I bought Swift DLX manual back in July 2011. I also experienced the same sound within the first month of its use, I mean a tuk sound in low speeds and quick pick up. It was very annoying for me so i reported the same to My dealer from where I initially bought the car. I was told that it's the axle's fault. They reported the matter to the company. An authorized person checked my car and said that its because of a pin in the gear box and that needs to be changed. so they lowered the gear box and changed that pin. the sound went off but only for a week. it came back and is there ever since.... Finally I was told try to live with it 'coz even the Japanese can't do anything about that......
    It really frustrates me!!!
So could you or anybody find any cure for that??? plz respond!

i was shown Toyota Prius, i was inserted in it until a friend told me that it needs batteries to be change every 5 years or so n u will have to import them. i dont know. so i dropped that Battriers pay jitna kharcha ana hai utna hi normal patrol ki gari ka kharcha ho ta hai in the same matter of time. so why should i n how can i save money on hybrid lol ...

well at the end i came on swift,
now i have no idea how this car performs on Long Routes as i always have a long Travel of 700kms in 2 months.

    Hi

Get a Swift if you're happy with the okay-ish size trunk and no CNG installed
If you need a trunk, look for a less-driven City, that is a nice car too.
Paying 50k extra for Navigation? naaah S4 is better than that!
I got my Swift DLX 2 days ago, and i am happy with the performance and everything. Mileage, cant comment now since i am currently running first tank atm.
Good luck and do Istikhaarah before you choose anything!
Turbo lag is like foreplay. You know it's coming. And it's gonna be good.

    AssalamuAlaikum,

I've completed 56,000kms on my Suzuki Swift DLX (July 2011 production). The mileage includes one 4,500+km Pakistan Tour and the remaining mostly (95%) city driving. My mileage within city has averaged 11km/L while highway traveling has averaged 14km/L.

The first 55,000 kilometres were trouble free. All maintenance of the vehicle was done as per maintenance schedule by/at Suzuki Riaz Motors Korangi. No untrained mechanic ever touched the vehicle, except for wheel balancing/alignment when I changed the tyres at 45,000 kms.

    PROBLEMS:

    1) The first problem I have recently encountered is that the car would refuse to start sometimes. This problem is not limited to cold start or morning start (which has happened three times), but happens even if I have driven, say, 20kms to a certain place and tried to restart the car after just 30 mins (happened twice). Moreover, while driving the car, the car's engines shuts off and on trying to start it again, it won't start (happened twice).

One two occasions, I took the fuel line out and turned the ignition key (to start the car) and to see if fuel was being pumped to the engine, but no fuel was being pushed out. This made me think that the problem has something to do with either the fuel pump or maybe with some fuel sensor which activates the fuel pump as soon as the ignition is turned on. (In DLX you will hear a buzz sound and the fuel light turn on during this while when you turn on the ignition each time. I presume this is what happens during this buzzing sound).

There's one important thing that you too, like me, would find odd. Each time, the car started after I left it for 20 minutes to one hour. When the car didn't start, I left it and when I tried started it again after some time, I started on the first self. Once, while the car shut down on Korangi causeway and I asked a colleague to tow it towards Korangi Crossing, while my car was being towed, and having just traveled one kilometre from where the car had originally shut off, I tried the self and the car started as if nothing was wrong!

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

I don't want to waste money experimenting and trying to find the root cause on a trial and error basis.

On phone, the Suzuki Service Manager advised, "Sir, try changing the fuel pump and see if the problem persists". This, to me, sounded ridiculous and I want to first identify the exact root cause and then spend my hard earned money.

    Please advise.

    2)
The second problem has been knocking while picking up the car. This started around the time I crossed 50,000 km mark. I've used mostly Shell regular or Total regular in this car and the engine oil has been only Suzuki-dealership provided one, during the whole 56,000 km mileage.

Assuming that it was one odd case of bad fuel, I filled one complete tank with hi-octane (shell) and the knocking vanished, however, as soon as I shifted back to regular, the knocking restarted. It's the same with Total, Shell, Caltex or PSO fuel. A mix of Rs. 2,000 hi-octane and remaining regular removes the knocking, but not so if the entire tank is filled with regular fuel. Please don't tell me that I'll have to start using hi-octane now. My daily mileage these days is 100 km+.

    Please advise here as well.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

I was also of the same view, however, the dealership (Suzuki Riaz Motors) told me that there's no need to change it till 100k kms.

How many Swift owners have changed their fuel filters and at what mileage?

Do you think that this issue is related to a dirty/clogged up fuel filter?

Could be due to a clogged fuel filter. Check the owner's manual and see what is says about replacing the fuel filter. If it says replace at 40 k then get it done. Also always keep a quarter tank full in the car. Due to less fuel in the tank the kuchra in the tank may clog up the line or fuel filter. Have the fuel pressure tested if it is weak then the fuel pump is the culprit. Best of luck!

    Update (posting quite late):

Problem 1 > Resolved by merely changing the fuel lid. Found out that the ____ driver had changed the original fuel lid with a desi one.

    Problem 2 > Resolved by using a fuel additive/cleaner.

Dear brother. You have made a good choice to buy a Swift DLX. Ill tell u a few things about it as i have been using it from new. Keep a light foot on the throttle and it will give u excellent mileage (mine is giving 12-14 and it s a 2010 model) although if u want to make a quick getaway, the engine will rev sweetly and accelerate u in no time (the engine is quiet powerful for the body and very responsive). Light foot on the brakes and it will reduce wear and tear of the brake shoes and save your tyres as well (the treads on my company fitted tyres are still deep). Timely oil changes (i get mine done at 4000 kms alongwith air, fuel & AC filter). Dont get the engine bay washed with high pressure (i just use low pressure and a hard bristled toothbrush from time to time). Keep your tyre pressure under check (i check mine after every two or three days and try to keep a constant of 32). Driven it for 4 years and it has a mileage of 45000 kms and it hasn`t given me any problems so far. Goodluck
