    Default Optimum highway speed for maximum fuel economy

    Hi Guys,

    I have Corolla 1.3 GLi (petrol - no CNG).
    I frequently travel on the motorway. Just wanted to know what is the optimum/ideal speed at which i should drive constantly to get maximum fuel economy that is possible??

    What is the maximum possible average - and at what speed?

    Below is what I have tested many times on the Islamabad - lahore motorway (please note that this is without AC and with 2 people and very little luggage):

    - Constant drive at speed of 110 KM/Hr: 14.5-15.5 Km/ltr
    - Constant speed of 120 KM/Hr: 13.5-14.5 KM/ltr
    - Constant speed of 130 KM/hr: 12.5 KM/ltr

    my normal city average is between 12-12.5 km/ltr these days (i get this with 50% AC).

    The SUB will do what the BOX tells it to do!

    as someone stated above, its all abt keeping the RPM low....dirving on 40 in first gear is more fuel consuming than driving on 110 in 5th....so...the question is wrong in this topic...its all abt the RPM at the end of the day.

    Plz also calculate how much you actually save by driving slow on motorway and whether it is worth the trouble.

    drive @ 80kmph
    people who use Highbeams.. once day would suffer too bigtime. People who drive slow on fast lanes, remember one day a vehicle carryin ur son, dad might get late to hospital coz people like u. underaged driving will land u in bigtime trouble one day or the other.. And the Blue indication light on ur speedometer denotes "High Beams"

    @Lafafa.

    Next time you are on motorway close the windows and turn on AC, you should get better milage.

    The best speed is 100kph.

    Larger engines are more economical on motor way (as engine to weight ratio is better)
    I Dont Drive Fast, I Fly Slowly....
