Default Old Mercedes vs Lancer: Comfort wise

I am comparing Mercedes old models . W124, W202, W126, W201 with Lancer 2007 model in terms of comfort only.

Is it worth changing Lancer with the above Mercedes models only for sake of comfort ?

I can afford the fuel but I donot want to get stuck with an old mercedes getting repaired every week...you know the state of affairs in Pakistan, people do not take care of the cars in a proper way and buying a used mercedes seems like a gamble

Mitsubishi is addressing the fuel crunch with multiple engine options for new Lancer model so it will be more beneficial than old Mercedes.

the definition of comfort is slightly different in owning a mercedes benz, e.g. the 124 series rides a little stiff - about as stiff as an accord but it shows its real domain when it speeds onto the motorway, the car literally engages the road and its suspension works to keep each tyre on the road without moving the body much.

Its not a plush wallowy ride..

What about the W201 and W202? How are their rides compared to a JDM lancer ?

I am not asking about W126 since I do not think I can accomodate the big size and fuel consumption.

these cars rides are very different, they are very smooth at high speed and you need to get used to the heavy controls, even the accelerator pedal is heavy to push so is the brake and steering. At low speeds these cars tend to be stiff but controlled, they have a lot of rubber bushes in the wheel control.

Small economy cars like the lancer and corolla are not in this league.

e.g. I can make a swerve in my W124 at about 130 km/h and the car wont skate or hop if I touch a bump or dip on the road, do this in a corolla/lancer/civic/accord/galant/camry - and the car will scare you for a brief moment.

You wont find a clean 201 and 202 but if you do then go for it waisey its not about the fuel economy or comfort i think if some goes wrong in a merc you will not be able to find a quick fix mechanic for it .It can really be a problem when your with ur family and only a handful of mechanics know about the 2 series mercedes i know some members would say our mercs have never given us any problem but still ur money ur decision

    ^^ True,

The biggest problem I have encoutered with MBz in Pakistan is that the owners dont believe in regular checkup and preventive maintenance. All cars are supposed to go through regular checkups and rectify any upcoming problems or replace wear out parts before they actually break off and cause other damage.

I have seen a W124 in Karachi with a bad shift modulator which was turned down to "hide" the problem, this caused the transmission to slip in the 3-4 shift and heatup the fluid which was never changed in the first place, Which then burned up the whole trans as the ATF broke down. Cost of rebuilding trans = high, cost of modulator 1/16 of rebuilding the trans.

Similarly in a 202 or 210 etc etc, take care of preventive maintenance and the cars will work fine - they are used as taxis in EU and in some countries they are only shutoff after a week of constant running.

As with any car - dont skimp and jugaarbaazi your car, if you require a brake job please use proper brake purpose grease, if you require new front wheel bearings in your MB please use a dial gauge to set their clearance and use only the correct lube, dont use aaloo and charbee processed grease.

oklodhi sb, let me say k aap ne aakheer kr di hay ye sawal puch k. o bhai comfort to na compare kro lancer se. aur questions puch lo.

anyways, bro w202 is the best for you. some very obvious reasons are its price (near to that of lancer) and secondly its not very sensitive as compared to newer models of mercedes.

xulfiqar has rightly explained its drive. the ride feels a little stiff but steering lets u feel THE POWER and you need not worry about bumpy roads. Dont get a MANUAL one as its a pain to drive it in rushy areas. fuel economy is VERY near to that of lancer. (10-12km local and 14km on highway)

let me also say that merc does not ask for frequent maintenance work (other than regular oil, filter etc) if it is done once properly. merc is way too tough than these lancers/corollas/civics. even the oil change is after more mileage than the other mentioned cars.

do not be afraid at all. the maintenance of w202 is very easy and many (little sooj boojh rakhne wale) mechanics can do it. just make sure to buy a clean ride in the first place and it is not only for merc but for every used car
