Default Old Mercedes vs Lancer: Comfort wise

I am comparing Mercedes old models . W124, W202, W126, W201 with Lancer 2007 model in terms of comfort only.

Is it worth changing Lancer with the above Mercedes models only for sake of comfort ?

    Question for Mercedes Owners:

I read one of the ads of C180 which says the car has bucket seats. I understand this is like a sports car seats with contours to keep your body from moving when driving fast or turning corners.

Which is more comfortable in routine driving the bucket seats or the normal seats in C180?
and secondly are only the front seats bucket or all seats on the car are bucket seats?

The front seats are by standard bucket seats - The sport line seats have thicker bolsters on their backs only, Both are good for everyday use. I think you are mixing the term bucket seats and racing seats like the ones in a mitsu lancer evo.

btw - in general any car of the world has two types of seats; bucket and bench

bucket is the one like any standard car of today has, bench is the one like the old cars with steering gear had - one long seat.

Another question regarding Mercedes C180. Is it possible to get the meter reversed like normal cars? The one I am talking about has the digital display of mileage.

I have seen one which has around 1lac km mileage but the seats are in such a bad condition and buttons are just finished (wiped out due to use) . I was wondering if the owner had got the meter reversed of his car.

If the seats are MB tex material and they are worn out - inspect the rear portion of the driver, it must be made of sandpaper. wearing out MB tex is similar to wearing out a hammer face. If its genuine leather then the owner probably never took care of it.

I was talking to a Mercedes owner and he told me if you really want to enjoy a Mercedes then, buy a W140. Fuel consumption is bearable and price is decent.

So what should be the price of a W140 mids 90's model? I get the feeling that the ones on Pakwheels seem to be overpriced.
What about the fuel consumption in Lahore city?

What about maintenance costs? It is S class, so it is supposed to be expensive to maintain. I was thinking if I buy a normal condition W140 and I keep aside a small sum every month I can get the car in complete working condition in about one years time. I can start with the basic items which will keep the car running, then shift to suspension and lastly on work on accessories likes Ac/ sunroof etc.

fuel consumption of a 90's S class is always going to be under 9. I wont comment on price.
If I were you, I would spend 100k more than normal market/average price of a particular car and buy an extremely well kept car instead of spending money and getting myself enrolled for one year's tension of getting the car maintained.
mind you, maintaining an S class isn't easy

Keep in mind the W140 was the epitome of benz engg, and cost about USD 65,000 - 100,000/- when new. All spares are available but at their original price. So keep that in mind too.

e.g. If you somehow find a W140 - S600 sedan, take aside USD 4500/year to maintain it in factory condition. If you find a W140 with the M104 engine it will be cheaper but still require about 1000-2000 USD/year. No doubt they are incredible cars to drive, very controlled, quiet and smooth, yet they can dance on your command - but they require their share. If you do opt for the W140 - do not buy the early ones, they were not fully CAN-BUS and being analog they can become nightmares to sort out as it has kilometers of wiring - and that wiring decays badly too.

The later ones can be interrogated and rectified nicely. All models had the AC evaporator made problem and replacing it requires dismantling the dashboard which is a job that requires an entire samawaar of chai, slim tools and very good work knowledge.

    Another model out now.......

What about BMW 3 series? I have never sat in one, but I was checking the used section and found BMW 318 of 90s is much cheaper than mercedes (with lot more options).

Could it be due to the less market or some other reason?
what about comfort? Which is more comfortable E36 or W202? By comfort I mean when driving on Pakistani roads.

the 202 competes with the E36 BMW, take your pick - one is a bit plush the other a bit taut. Both have completely different drive experiences.

Its best to stick to one choice and look for it, seems that you are riding a wave for no reason.

Since your earlier question needed a lengthy reply and the fact that i am no expert on mercs or other luxury cars so i decided not too reply ... but in fact u r following the same pattern as me, after exhausting the options for merc u r considering bmw as an option ... both these are excellent cars and way better than any japanese car but NOT in Pakistan (in the given budget) ... keep up your search but do add crown in it somewhere you'll not regret buying it ... always buy out of mkt cars in a price in which you can sell it anytime, this is the key .. best of luck ... i've not kept crown but had the opportunity to drive it many times even on long routes and i love its drive & comfort

bmw bhi phattay chuk de gi jab kaam nikaale gi.

make up your mind and just buy a car.

the way that you are handling things, i would recommend you the S class. I believe you will be really happy to spend a year on saving and spending your money and time in workshop.

I just came back after checking out the E220 for sale in sui gas colony. the deal was done. token given and car test driven. the engine has been changed from 102 to 111 and so i didnt buy it. u may check it out.

Its more hard to find a clean e36 then a w202, and as i have heard they are notorious for heating up and wiring issues.
