Question Charade 85 Engine swap with 658 cc K6A (Suzuki Cervo) or Daihatsu Mira (L250 series)

I hope everyone is doing great. I own a Charade 85 whose engine has now started to give signs of wear and tear – Its giving white smoke and draining out the Engine Oil quiet frequently now. Keeping in mind the CNG load shedding and other issues related to Car’s health on CNG, I am planning on an Engine swap instead of getting the original Engine overhauled. Because Charade engines are not fuel efficient on Petrol now a days (12-14 km/liters). For that, I am considering the 658 cc K6A (Suzuki Cervo) or Daihatsu Mira (L250 series engines) as they are very much fuel efficient (approximately 20 Liters/km mileage). Question here is that will the 660 cc engine handle the weight of charade as I am of the opinion that Charade is not a Kid body vehicle as most of the 660 cc engine cars are. I am indecisive regarding an Engine overhaul or an engine swap of one of the 660 cc engines because a complete Engine overhaul will cost around 30k and a 660 cc engine would cost the same (my opinion). Please Pakwheelers guide me through this as I am finding it hard to make a decision. You can guide me for any other 660 cc engine apart from the ones I have mentioned as well.

Toyota Duet engine is a possibility. It is 1.0 litre Daihatsu EJ-VE.

I think the above 2 suggestions are good. Both are good options. I think the Daihatsu engine would cost you lesser. Another cheap option would be to swap a Cultus, Checrolet Joy or a Santro engine.

Do remember that Chevy Joy engine is the most powerful of the lot. Feel free to ask if you have any questions as I used to have an 85 Charade.

ummmmm!! Proverbial_Slang!! would the Joy engine give me good mileage on petrol? Coz i am fed up from CNG and want to run it on petrol - atleast what i am looking at is 20km/ltr from a petrol engine !!! ALongwith that, I am a great admirer of Charades and dont want to spoil the power thingy related to them

swapping a smaller less torquey engine would make your car a complete dog, it would not give your expected fuel mileage either because you are trying to lug around more weight than a Kei engine can handle.IMO the best you can get even after swapping a toyota EFI engine is 14 km/lit, but that is near to exactly the same as the original would give. So why go through the expense and headache. Almost all cases of oil consumption in a daihatsu CB engine is requirement of a head job with new valve guides, valves and seals and checking of the cam bores, rocker shafts and rockers. The block is very robust and will last a very long time unless you actually ran it dry.. But check twice repair once - you might be lucky to spend a very small amount of money to restore your engine and mileage.

that would completely negate the low fuel consumption part.

Thanks for the replies - A dead thread though !! I had the original one overhauled - It appears to be in good nick as of yet (6 months since the overhaul) and hopefully it will keep on giving me good service

Thank you Zulfiqar for advising not to swap an engine and so I didnt - Totally satisfied with the overhaul.

    Ta!
