Lightbulb Which Car Should I Purchase? Real Car Experts K Leah Challenge

    AoA Reader

    Ready for Challenge?

Pls suggest a suitable vehicle based on following requirements,

    a. monthly city drive of 2200-2400 KM
    b. maximum petrol/diesel i can afford per month is 200L, no CNG
    c. 1 visit in 3 months to AJK/Mountainous area, 100KM one way/4Hrs requires ground clearance as road is mud track
    d. family use, 2 children, 3 adults
    e. repair & maintenance ease with no hassle to search 50 shops to find parts/consumables
    f. resale possibility with maximum loss no more than 50,000
    g. affordability up to 1.5 million PKR

    Currently What I Have:
    1 x Belta 1.3 2007 Market Value @ 13.50
    1 x Cuore 2012 Market Value @ 08.00

    What are my Problems?

whenever i have to go to AJK/Mountainous track, Belta because of low ground clearance hits stones/ground, Cuore doesn't hit but cannot be used for long drives with family. Belta is auto and i get to hear sound of knocking while going uphill. on some very few occasions i had to call helpers to give a push while going very steep uphill. i changed air filter of Belta (xli filter used) and now consumption dropped to 10-12 from 13-15.

I can sell both the current cars to go for new options that you may propose, 2 cars is not my need, pls suggest.

I also want to propose a small gift on best suggestion, this to express my 'thank you' feeling for his time and suggestion.

    JazakAllah

I would recommend you to buy Toyota RUSH/Daihatsu Terios Yes less resale value but piece of mind.

Be realistic nothing is 100% perfect.

Although i'm using Altis 1.8 and so far i'm satisfied a driver with all its perfomance.

    choose Between
    City Brand New
    Belta 1.3
    Altis 09 Model.
    GLI 2010 Model.

Brand New should be your preference. No maintenance Required just Oil Change after 5000KM.

I'll suggest you to go for brand new Honda City 2012 (Manual)
    Reasons:
    a) Monthly city drive (2400 km) of honda city will cost you maximum 160 litres of partol (Maximum), if driven on highways consumption will go down to even 140 litres (speaking of personal experience)
    b) Already answered
    c) Ground clearance of new city (160mm) is better.
    d) Its a good car for this size of family.
    e) Parts are easily available without any khwari.
    f) you will be selling it for more than what you bought it for.
    g) Invoice price (Including freight) is 1,504,000. (perfectly within your budget)
I could have suggested you to buy GLI, but thats beyond your budget, but you can get a little used GLI in 1.5 mil. But since you won't be travelling so much outside city, so Honda City seems to be a wise option.
    My two cents....

i'd say go for a toyota axio g if you can. get rid of both the cars. Get an unregistered toyota axio, from a trusted dealer.
i'm suggesting it cause my dad has one, and the local consumption is very good! (around 13.2 km/l) that is when my dad drives it, although when i do, it comes down to 12.7!
but since you'll drive it like my dad, cause you'll have to fill it, im sure it'll give you the same consumption.
ground clearance isn't that good, but it does the job, i've driven it on quite a rough terrain and its fairly comfortable compared to the cars assembled locally.
and on the smooth road, its better than most of the cars out there.
overall it is one hell of a car.. you can easily get one for around 1.7 million! (unregistered)

    Thumbs up Honda City

I would suggest the Honda City manual preferably in some dark colour (to hide scratches and not attract attention). Fawadaslam has pointed out all the pro's for the City. Japanese imports will give you trouble as far as maintenance is concerned or should you have to replace any lights/accessories. Expensive and parts less available throughout the country. The Corolla is a bit expensive and attractive for car thieves. My vote for the City!
    :-)

I spoke to a couple of owners who have Altis, real average in city is not more than 10, highway average where road is straight average is 13-14. but in hilly areas average is as less as 8.

new altis is not only expense but also has road clearance issue for hilly area on full load. rear bumper hits badly- actual drivers disclosed in one to one interview

    hey all,

i have almost the same requirements as mrizwankhan here, only i dont go to hilly areas much. I am more of a local isb expressway driver but drive almost 2400 a month. i am thinking of swift dlx new but also open for suggessions from you experts. I have a budget of 1.3m. Another option that my dad like is toyota belta 1.3L but i am very hesitant in buying due to some reasons:

which dealer to trust as i dont know ne and also abit zero in cars just drive n maintain it,
    parts availability of belta?
    O&M costs?
cng option available for it or not. does belta 1.3L perform well on cng if i opt for it later?
resale value lets say if i sell it after 3years?

Do you guys suggest me to buy belta used over swift new?
where to buy belta in isb/pindi area from ne dealer if i go for belta ?

Any suggessions for me as well alongwith mrizwankhan here please please as its a hard earned money ...

    Thanks.

If your requirements are summarised these are:
1-Any car which can do at least 12 km/litre in city driving.
2-A family car having good ground clearance and can withstand the roughness of the roads.
3-It's parts should be readily available without any problem
4- should have a good resale value.
    5-Price shouldn't be more than 1.5 million.
Any 1.3 litre car can do 12 or more than 12 km/litre within the city so 1.3 litre car can serve your needs
You require a local manufactured car because of parts availability as well as resale value so your requirement is limited to Toyota, Honda or Suzuki only.
All 1.3 litre locally manufactured cars can be had within 1.5 million.
Now the issue of ground clearance.. You won't like Honda because of Hard suspension as well as not so good ground clearance and not suitable for rough roads.. Regarding Suzuki.. You can have Baleno or liana but i suppose you won't like both of these cars because baleno would be too old and liana because of shape and other maaters. So you are left with toyota only. Your best choice should be off course 1.3 GLI.. which can serve you better than any other car.. And high theft ratio is not something to stay away from buying this car because any car can be stolen. And if pessimism is followed, then we must not buy any vehicle because it will be stolen, or it will be accidented ot it will be snatched or it will cost us a huge amount of money to maintain.. and so on.. So stay cool and buy the car of your requirements.. Regards

i have Belta 1.3, best millage i got was 18.25Km/L on long drive without AC. local average varies from 12Km/L-14Km/L with AC. oil filter and air filter is same as corolla. i had to replace front grill, original costs 6000, while Taiwani cost 2000. original bumper cost 17,000.

Drive wise its a great car, its kind of car you would want to keep for pleasure driving. 2007 model, full options (Climate control, satellite navigation, push start) , excellent condition(4.5 Grade) will costs around 13.50 unregistered. 40K around for registration.

Comparing it with Suzuki DLX is not an apple to apple comparison. DLX is fuel guzzler since engine is DOHC based. i will be surprised if it can do 12KM/L. most of owner i spoke to were complaining for eating fuel. its sporty yes but a small car to spend million plus.

if you want city drive, go for Belta if you like JDM or Honda City if you want pakistani.

Forget CNG as you will waste your time in queue every second days for 3 days and then you will forcefully switch to petrol because of load management.

Suzuki Jimny is the answer having 4x4 option, it would meet all your above needs however new one may cost a little more but you should be able to find used one within your budget on pakwheel, fuel and performence unbelivable all based on personal experience.
