Default Need urgent buying advice for a used car in 14 Lakhs!!!

I've extended my budget a bit to 13-14 Lakhs and after talking to many folks I'm leaning towards Toyota Corolla XLi / GLi 2009 or 2010 model. Almost everyone I spoke to has given this car preference over Honda City in terms of comfortability, suspension and cost of maintenance /repairs. Since my car will be used by my family so I'm also thinking to go with XLi, what do you guys think?

Also got a few more questions if you gurus could answer me and help me make a better decision:

    1) What should be the maximum price of a 2009 XLi and 2009 GLi considering low meter usage and good condition?

    2) What should be the maximum price of a 2010 XLi and 2010 GLi considering low meter usage and good condition?

    3) Which one is better an XLi / GLi which has been running on Petrol and has no CNG kit installed, or a XLi / GLi which has been running on both Petrol and CNG?

    4) How much would it cost to add the CNG Kit to XLi / GLi myself later?

    5) Any recommendation better than a 2009/2010 XLi / GLi in 13 - 14 Lakhs budget?

    6) Some people say that they have converted their GLi into Altis, what does this mean exactly, what have they added in the GLi? And is this really worth spending the extra money?

    Thanks in advance.

Dude if your spending that much money i would advise you NOT to go for an XLi. That car has zero luxury. Go for a Gli or i would recommend you look in to the Honda Civic category.

How is XLi much different than GLi other than power windows and ABS? So how would they have different luxury??? GLi is atleast 1 Lakh more than a XLi and paying that 1 Lakh for power windows and ABS is not worth it in my opinion.

From what I've heard, Honda Civic is expensive to maintain and it hardly gives 9-10 KM/Litre in the city where we will be mostly driving the car, whereas I've heard XLi/GLi gives a bit more than that right?

That car is above my budget, I want to spend a maximum 14 Lakhs, maximum!

Much difference in 2009 and 2010 models of GLi car other than the years?

I think 2010 GLi would be out of my budget of 14 Lakhs, right?????

The rear lights is the only difference between 2009/10 models other than that they are same AFAIK.

p.s I was being offered an olive green (not a market color) GLi 2012 for 1480 back in December so you probably can find a 2009 model for 14.

comfortability : agreed corolla is slightly better.. but i feel more cumfortable and safe sitting in my city
suspension : city has hard suspension.. i find it more stable on long routes on motorway and gt road
and cost of maintenance /repairs : they are the same. no difference..

    now
    power : hands down city
    mileage : hands down city

resale : i would say almost equal maybe corolla has slightly better

    worth for money

corolla not so much. xli doesnt even has power windows in that huge price tag.

who so ever has been telling so xli is better than ivtec.. are not your friends

City i powerful, corolla is under powered. City has more features, but corolla hasn't much.
City is best for Urban areas. And corolla is best for people who lives in villages or drives on bumpy roads.
City cost me 16,18000 with navigation, honda genuine rims, leather seats, etc. But Gli price tag is 16,69000 with no such features.
City has better fuel economy that Gli. Gli is hot target for thiefs but City isn't. Corolla gives you the feel of bigger car, while city not.
City k nakhray ziyada hein, Corolla dheet hai. I HOPE, i answered your question.

Oh alright thanks for that info bro

I've heard iDSI is better than iVTEC overall, is that true? I've heard that the 2008 model has better suspension, comfortability and mileage as well than the iVTEC models, is that true?

Also I read somehwere on these forums that one should opt for Automatic Suspension in city rather than Manual for smoother riding experience, how true is that?

iDSI gives u better milage and more space (cabin and trunk) whereas iVTEC gives u better pick (more responsive engine) with new and improved outlook + interior. I have no idea about iVTEC suspension so can not compare it with iDSI. My personel suggestion would be to go for newest possible model (whichever make u choose) unless u have serios issue in any specific thing.

Thanks bro, that's my ideology as well to go with a newer model, will have lesser issues, updated parts and better resale

And if choosing between iDSI manual and auto which one would be recommended?

Auto version (Vario) is cheaper than manual (in same condition), fuel consumption is slightly higher (difference of 2 or 3 Km per Liter), CNG option is absolutely not suitable for it. if u don't have issues with manual transmission then go for it. it is more recomended by me
