    Question Confused About Which Car to Buy

    Salam to all pakwheelers!
    Guys i am a middle class guy, young doctor by profession from karachi.
    now after a long wait its time for me to buy my "FIRST ride" & my maximum range would be 1100k-1250k & i've planned to buy this through bank financing!

    i've been searching several forums on pakwheels regarding different cars, both local & jdm, but now i am too much confused that i cant make a decision which one should i buy! having all the important facts in my mind i am still unable to get a way to final conclusion! so i need you people to help me!

    i like toyota vitz & toyota passo(like the most) in jdm, on other hand, suzuki swift & suzuki cultus(like the least).
    both jdm & local cars which i listed are in my budget (i think) but the facts i am thinking of:
    1. such big amount should for 50k-60k driven jdm car or zero meter local car?
    2. jdm car would be a headache for maintinence/spare parts but zero meter would'nt have any issues (what i believe)
    3. jdm cars are imported good build as compared to local one!
    4. if i buy a jdm i've to put on extra money on tuning, plugs, oils, filters, Tyre, etc but in case of local!
    5. after 5-6 years which one have good resale, a 10 years old jdm or 5 years old local!

    so keeping all this in mind regarding, good built, better choice, less maintenance & most importantly good resale value what should i go for,
    more specifically toyota passo or suzuki swift/cultus.

    I hope all you guys would give me your expert & helpful opinions, i am waiting for your kind reply.
    thank you all in advance!

    Just like others have pointed out, if u want a tension free ride, just get a brand new swift. Also bcz ull be leasing it on 5 yrs term so get something which wont break down before 5 yrs. if u go for jdm, ull get atleast a 5 yrs old model which by the end of ur term will be 10 yrs old amd sell for much less than a 5 yrs old pkdm.

    @baqai:

    thank you bro for your kind concern, i have test driven passo & swift, passo is slightly better but there is not a big difference between both the cars..
    i know few of my friends & specially my cousin who owned jdm cars like vitz, passo & premio. at first they had checked/verified their cars with many experts but after few months of buying jdm they got to know what probs cars had.. i know one dealer who lives near my place he imported a mitshu EK Wagon for his family use, according to him he couldnt find anything bad about it, but after few weeks he get to know left fender was replaced/repaired. His close friend (in japan through whom he imports cars) had done fraud with him, i dont know if dealer is not experienced or he believed his friend with eyes closed!

    my cousin with premio had replaced back shocks & it costed around 28k (i think) & he found them after too much khuwari & waste of time. and many friends of mine said all jdm cars have a very common & big problem "stolen body parts" while parking! specially side mirrors & back viper.. even wheel caps are stolen as well

    baqai bhai i am totally with you, you are right trough out, i dont have too much time for all these khuwari stuff & dont wana waste my money as well, your reply is really helpful for me.. thank you!

    @salmanrasheedpsh:

    i know about pakistani people how they work & what quality they use, agreed! but i think all little things you said depends upon how you handle your car & how you care about it..
    my colleague have swift dx 2010 he really care about it, & car is in good condition no annoying sounds at all, car almost runs around 80-90kms daily its still in good knock!
    your points are also valid, so i kept them in my mind as well..

    Buying a 2013 model car and leasing it for three years would be great. In 2016 you will have a 2013 model car. Its like owning a 2009 model car right now. Doesnt sound too old right?

    I am not a big fan of leasing, but thats another story. However if i did ever lease, i will never settle for anything less than a brand new. I know people who lease and upgrade every four years and their installment remains pretty much the same. In three years most people put less than 50k KM on the ODO so the car sells great, they pay the down payment and get a newer model . This way they never actually have to worry about break downs and do any kind of khuwari.

    fahad bro has got a very very valid point here....Age of car no matter PKDM or JDM matters when it comes to resale. Also since you are going for financing, the car will already cost u more than control price at the end of financing term and will be sold at less then the control price of today....the older, the more money u'll lose...
    Whenever a bird shits on my car, I eat a plate of scrambled eggs on my front porch just to let them know what I'm capable of...

    Check out threads regarding 2000/2001 model vitz prices, they haven't depreciated that much. Around 700k mark still, all depends how you will be keeping the car.

    Would you buy a 2001 Vitz or 2009 Swift?

    Since you mentioned the maintenance part, there are different types of owners.

    The ones like me who maintain everything on their own. I have no problems getting grease on my hands over the weekend. Its kind of a hobby. If my car breaks down, it becomes a shugal. If i get a brand new car, it will get a little boring after a while because only thing it would require would be an oil change. But for someone who just likes to drive and does not have the knowledge, patience and stamina for khuwari should always get a brand new car. Besides if the choice had been between Cultus/Alto/Mehran or a JDM, i would have recommended a JDM.

    Swift is a pretty decent car.

    @mfahadb001

    Another point to ponder

    Financing rate on used JDMs are higher than 0 meter PKDMs. I think insurance depreciation is also charged differently on JDMs and since you are leasing, insurance would be mandatory.

    That wasn't a suggestion as to which car to get that was a point regarding its resale. Resale of an old vitz is still decent given the car is 10yrs+ old.

    with a brand new car depreciation is charged at 5-10% / part . for older cars it increases upto 60%.

    The 1.5% difference translates into around 4.5% of the principal amount in three years.

    Brother get a 2008 June afterwards petrol city vario or 2008 new shape corolla and nothing else.

    trust me u will thank me after 5 years.

    vario will cos you 8 - 8.5 lac max for 60-80k km driven car.

    Corolla will cost u around 11 lacs.

    imported cars parts sucks and financing is also on 2-3% high not too mention the servicing.
