I dont think this guy has his priorities straight, in a torque converter driven transmission, the first ratio clutch/band is applied and then it waits stationary as the torque converter cannot transfer enough drive torque to spin the trans. The brakes are not wearing out as the vehicle is not moving, brake wear occurs when brakes are made to stop a rotating wheel disc/drum
The only plausible point is the trans without torque converters like the stupid pile of $chitt Honda CVT unit in the city in which a clutch pack is used as "sacrificial" material for starting off.
So - all in all it wont make any difference (sans the stupid honda one)
