Question Honda Civic 1.8 (latest shape) vs Toyota Prius 1.8 (latest shape)

    Salam everyone!

I am going to buy a new car for myself. As you all know that petrol price has gone up and it might become UN-affordable to keep a petrol car. also we can predict that hybrid cars will become very much common here as Toyota is launching Prius and Honda is launching CR-Z Hybrid in the end of this year. also the more common the car is, the more the backup. I am stuck between Honda Civic and Toyota Prius. I am very much impressed with the fuel efficiency of Prius, though i never drove it. but I am curious if it has the same or more acceleration than Honda civic? If yes than I would definitely go for Prius. Also please clear if Honda Civic has good fuel efficiency (obviously not better than Prius)? if the econ button has any advantage?

Please give comments on both cars (Drive, Comfort, Speed, Acceleration etc)
Detailed answers will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks

even just a new AC compressor price quote of the new Prius will give you a stroke. Its fully electric.

    GREAT TECH = YES
    cool = yes

repair bill = repair + hospital bill.

usual Pakistani car buyers only think about "how it looks" and is it better than their neighbors?, can they flaunt it? - and come the time of repairs they will be like little crying toddlers screaming of "loot liya"

    right.................

Its an old thread but as c4capricorn said, proper tech support from the manufacturer and "learned" tech support from shopowner are two different things and cannot be compared.

little example - SNAP ON in USA make really really good tools with life time replacement warranty - no matter if you break the tool after 25 years of usage they will give you a new one. If some shop is selling SNAPON tools in Pakistan they will not provide you with free tools when you break the original one.

    There is a difference.

parts.com supply OE parts drop shipped from dealerships. I use them a lot. you can see the compressor pricing yourself.

btw - parts.com already sell at nearly wholesale prices. so technically you will be paying retail + shipping + customs if you want that compressor in Pakistan - lets round it out to approximately Rs 200,000/- for the compressor alone.

I wouldn't touch JDM's with a 10 foot pole. Have seen my fair share of "fresh imported" JDM's undergoing major body work (front beam damaged). Recently saw 4 freshly imported Prius undergoing extensive repairs (totalled cars) at a workshop I go to; to be sold to unsuspecting customers as new, 25k mileage cars.

I know a personal instance where my friends passo had been hit from the front and back thrice within a span of 1 1/2 month. The back spare wheel well crumpled like an accordion, tail gate destroyed; radiator/ ac compress done for. He got it repaired and repainted; and I have to commend the repair job; it looked like it just came out of the factory lol.

And FIY- Toyota Lyallpur is not even capable to change CVT fluid in any CVT car. I went there with my friends Vitz and they told me no. Get it done from outside. Lol much?

now please ( with reasons ) how can something with cations and anions and with depleting electrodes can lasts forever ...

Is it something new ?? cause it kinda defies many physical laws starting with the point that "super conductor" does not exist in this world at least ( under normal conditions )

PS >> Super conductor conducts with zero resistance and zero leakage current resulting in practically 0% electrical and mechanical loss !
Batteries last for 6-7lac km easily, brake pads last twice more than of civics, gear oil also last long and so does the engine oil because f low rev operation. pickup of 1.8 ltr version is more than civic. All spares are available and at 120km/hr its bumpers dont open up on motorways like paki crap newer gen cars with engine shields flying and bumpers tied with nylon so that you wont loose em at high speeds, lol.

    Prius all the way

Plugs 1200 for one plug iridium.

Now please enlighten me if same parts of the civic are cheaper than this? nope.

Guys do some research first please, Japanese cars only have expensive body parts rest they're all the same.

    For example
Headlight is between 16-48k depending on the variant
    Bumper 17000 etc.

Iridum plugs are also for 850-900 each and they are good for 80k kms

    hello everyone.
well my experience with the new prius was drastic. no grip at all the latest 2011 model i a talking about. it had 17 inch orignal rims but the car used to lean out frm the back side very often. it was a full opton car. then one day in rawalpindi it slipped fromthe back end and was in a very bad accident with a suzuki khyber. then we bought a new prius same pearl white colour with gud michelin tyres and with standard rims which are i think 15inch. the problem was the same. at high speeds the car gets hard to control in turns. civic on the other hand has imence grip. the reborn had better grip than the new model but the new model is far better in grip than prius. plzzzz go for civic...

Are you serious? I have a 2010 S-Touring Prius and its handling is superb. I take several curves at high speeds the other cars just can't do that, and if the car begins to skid, the Traction Control takes good care of it. Probably you became a victim of a JENYAN and not GENUINE import.

    1. for nearly 20k km/year a prius will give u a return of upto 90k Rs. per anum of savings over a civic.

    2. used japanese cars esp. toyotas are better made and are gauranteed for rust proofing etc. so 1-2 year old car does not matter. also they are driven in better conditions, not like the dusty and hot environment of PK. so think of them as slightly used not not just used.

    3. with prius being offered by Toyota Indus motors expect that you ll find some sort of a solution for every problem. but any major problem will create deep holes in your pocket. which again may be balanced by the savings...

    4. civic's interior and exterior feels better. and probably more roomier. prius's diggy is i believe not as large as a civic's.

    5. priuses are having good resale too if they are in good condition. any difference will be more than compensated with the savings.

    6. expect Prius, being a Toyota, to be more durable than a civic.

    7. road clearance of a Prius isn't so good. you ll have to find some solution or live with the problem. Civic is on the other hand made for Paki roads.
