Default Honda Civic 1984 Heat up & Self Issue

    Dear All,

    Asalaam-u-Alaikum

I've recently purchased Honda Civic 1984, with new engine installed in 2008 and again repaired 3 months back. The car is all OK and gives smooth drive just facing following 2 problems.

    1. The car used to get overheated, but I got the radiator cleaned, now its heat gauge continuously rises as I continue to drive, until I switch off the engine and let it get cooled up.

    2. The self takes load and does not work when the engine is hot, I replaced the self with a Kabuli one, but still the same problem. Once the engine is switched off and is completely cooled then self works smoothly. I'm using 50amp battery.

    Regards,

    Muhammad Faheem

this model is notorious for air locks in the engine cooling system, thats why Honda provided bleed nipples on the engine.

    Dear All,

I've changed the battery, now the heat guage stops in the mid and the self issue is also gone...

Is the heatguage in mid normal?

the temp gauge should be approximately in the centre, but make sure the water pump is in good shape and that the thermostat has not been removed, also make sure you are using the correct radiator for your car with the bent filler neck - the neck is what causes the level to stay above the engine otherwise the system will air lock and overheat (heat + water + air = boil => bad)

Most - nearly 99.999% of these civics have been repaired on every jugaar known in the book, so make sure you know what to look for.

the cooling fans also need to be checked for airgaps around the shroud, the original shrouds got corroded by lack of maintenance and trying to use other motors in it, If its not sealed around its periphery the fan will suck air from the sides and not through the radiator resulting in overheating.
