Default Must read before buying new battery (UPS or Car)

To prolong battery life and get maximum performance must follow these points.

    1. Never Use battery without initial charging.

    2. Never charge the battery soon after putting the electrolyte in it.

    3. Leave the battery at least 25 to 30 minutes after adding electrolyte than connect
with charger which gives 10% ampere of battery capacity.

    4. Charge the battery till it reaches 15V and, replace the battery caps, look all cells are
    producing bubbles equally.

    5. Every battery have a manufacturing date printed on it........Purchase latest newly
    manufactured one.

    6. Make sure that before adding the electrolyte, battery was completely sealed and air tight.

    7. Now some companies offering already prepared electrolyte, prefer that one, rather
then prepared by the electrician or battery vender.

Any query regarding battery will be honestly entertained up to My knowledge Insha Allah

Don't know if my post will help this thread....but quite frankly except for topping up with distilled water every 8-12 months, I've not done any of the above for the last ...2-1/2 years...to my battery for UPS. Its still running good.

Also should I try to source the OEM terminals or will these be fine? Tried looking for other terminal covers and had no luck.

The factory installed battery terminal for positive side are available as spare parts from their parts sellers, The ground terminal comes complete with wire - also available as spare parts.

If Toyota are saying that even the local assembler does not have them then ask how are they wiring up the batteries in the new cars - magic connection?

The terminals are the same since 1990.

Dear, positive terminal of Car battery is usually covered because, whole car body is negative or called grounded........it is just to prevent the accidental short circuit........more than 50% Car batteries dont have such covers..........
Use Terminal of Good quality.......now in market many qualities are available, better is OEM....

For a good terminal - you can have one cast for you by a smithy. I used to have quite a number of these cast in copper.

And for covers, there are a ton of covers usually available at parts stores. For OE type covers you can salvage some from the scrap yard - you will also be able to find the genuine terminal too - sometimes along with fusebox hanging from it too.

Thank you for your reply too Zulfiqar bhai. I probably might check that option out too. Toyota Abbott demand 1500 for a pair of OEM terminals and I laughed and walked out of there.

In Karachi an unused (torn packing) OE positive side terminal for japanese cars used to cost Rs 100/- in 2005. Solid heavy duty items usually found on german cars and heavy diesels used to cost Rs 200/-

I used to charge Rs 200/- for a casted terminal - the wire was put into the hot metal and the metal cooled around it making one big solid connection. for the starter, the stud sticking out from it would be used to tighten the accessory wiring.

I also made negative terminals from copper pipe shaped to the battery post. Looked better than OE.

Sir please advise if everything is okay or something should be changed? Also notice on thr negative terminal the black foglight wire is haphazard. Unlike the red wire it doesnt have a metal ring attached to it which should normally be there. Should I do something about it? Pics attached. these are junk terminals and the way you have attached the negative wire to the terminal is also not good.

btw - why are your fogs grounded to the battery directly?

Yes, I thought the same too and I will go to the electrician and get it fixed IA. The fogs are aftermarket too thats why they are like this, I have a converted 1.6 gli to an Altis. Fingers crossed that I find some better terminal clips here in abbottabad.

fogs being aftermarket does not matter, the person who installed these is nuts. There are grounding points provided already in the car on the unibody structure.

Did he install a fuse in the main supply wire from the battery?

Dear, you are using F72 model of Imran brother….In this circuit, there is no setting for ampere…. If you want to keep this circuit in use, upload a picture of Transformer, (the side where from the 4 or 5 wires are originating……then I will tell you how to increase or decrease amperes by change charging loop.
2nd I advice you to replace this circuit with Ampere circuit, Imran and Co model IC 104……that better in all and u will be able to fix charging ampere from 5amp to 20amps easily.
