    Default WTB: Recommendations for Brand New Car

    Hi guys,

    I'm looking to replace my current Toyota Corolla 2.0D SE Saloon, 2007. I'll quickly list down a few points:

    - Budget of 1.8-1.9m
    - Over 1300cc ideally.
    - House car - Will be driven by driver & myself.
    - Brand new car only (No imported / reconditioned)
    - Open to both Honda & Toyota

    So I was looking at the Toyota, but then I heard the new model is due in August 2014. That would mean if I buy the current model, the re-sale would go down by about two lakhs within months? But then I'm not aware of how the new model will be priced, nor am I sure about how the new one would compare with the older one.

    Another question: I've heard people say that if your car will be driven by your driver primarily, then the auto transmission is not a good idea. Forgetting the increased cost for a second, tell me if there is greater wear & tear on an auto transmission vs. manual transmission?

    Any recommendations as to what direction to go in?

    If you have a good driver who does not drive rough and maintains your car properly then there is no harm in auto. and wait a while new corrola is coming in july-august so it is better to wait

    I would suggest go for the toyota and an automatic. the new model is going to be priced high and probably you wont lose any money as far as resale is concerned. look at the past trend. this is if you are not really bothered by the looks. toyota's can take a lot more beating then honda's and trust me when i say that cuz I am a honda fan...

    automatic is always better for the city, but it requires a bit of more experience on our roads and making mistakes is easy on an automatic. though automatics are easier to drive, they are more difficult to handle in a situation.

    Present Gli is priced at 16.7 lacs now ..next one will be atleast 1.5 lacs expensive ..make your pick

    City Aspire is another option too that will suit your budget. If I may suggest why not base model Civic .....

    It is better then everything you are considering and equally heavy on fuel as GLI ;-)

    An auto consumes more petrol as compared to a manual, more wear and tear. Secondly corolla doesnt have an immobilizer and God Forbids there are too many chances of the car getting stolen. So my vote is for manual City.

    One of the reasons why I'm tilting towards a corolla is the general perception that they are 'tougher' cars. Civics have this image of being 'delicate' cars.

    Been reading that the new xli will start at 1.95million, which is absurd. I could get the current shape Altis in that much. Or a City Aspire.

    His does the basic civic model compare to the similarly the priced mid tier corollas?

    Sirs,

    Base model Civic is something I'd love to get. My aprehensions are as raised above:

    Corolla = Durable, tough vehicle.
    Honda = Delicate vehicle.

    Do the above hold true? I've had a Honda City 2008 in the past, and I was very satisfied with it.

    Yes, the above conclusion you made is 110%correct.
    Sir it now all come down to your needs, i.e
    Your Daily Routes,
    Will you or the especially Driver the car normal or will he abuse when you are not around,
    Do you visit Rural areas Frequently with Bad or no Roads.
    Of course Corolla will sustain abuse much better than civic but its up to you to deciede in the light of your needs and Priority

    Sir,

    My daily routine is Karachi city driving. Mainly good (as per Pakistani standards) roads.

    I've personally shortlisted either the current model Corolla, or the current model Civic.

    I'm assuming closer to the new model launch Toyota will slash prices / give add ons for free / cheap?
