I was in similar situation 25 days ago, choosing between a civic oriel manual or altis grande manual, but at the end decided to go for grande' after reading reviews on civic forums and inspecting both the cars personally. No doubt that the interior of civic beats grande but the question is will it look like the same after 1 year. Read alot of people complaining about peeling of the material from door panels, squeaking sound coming from sunroof, some complained about squeaking sound coming from arm rest in brand new cars. I have driven 8th gen civic reborn and it was less than 70k driven and it made all those kind of squeaking sound and some strange noise coming from the rear and suspension as if i was sitting in an airplane. Lots of plastic used inside and I am quite allergic to these squeaking sounds.

As far as corolla is concerned, i have had two of them previously and no such sounds even after crossing 100k kms. No noises from the doors. Although the interior is not as good as that of civic but than its not bad either. The exterior is a class of its own, ride height might be of concern here. The bonet and trunk cover were all naked in civic even in the top of the line. Maybe, next time when i will decide to choose a car between corolla and civic, I would go for civic if and only if they make the exterior pretty by that time, not concerned about the interior cuz they always make it very good. But as for now, its Grande all the way.

You should take a test drive of both the cars and then decide. If you are deciding of buying a car based on words then you'll not be happy in the end.

Please come and drive my 110k driven 2008 model 8th gen civic and I bet you won't be able to find even a single noise from interior. No squeaks at all! and no, It is not driven on carpeted roads of Islamabad, It is driven on the roughest terrains of southern punjab and sindh very often.
Arm rest squeaks sometime if I apply pressure on it. Even my car has not developed any suspension issue yet Alhamdulillah.
We have a corolla 2003 2.OD and 200k driven in the same terrains and even driven on construction sites. No squeaks at all!
It is about how you drive and take care of your car. If you drive your car on bumps like a SUV. Then surely 10k driven car will also squeak.
Also have a 2007 2.OD SE and that car is driven in the hands of drivers. Every frigging corner of that car squeaks.

p.s: Both cars are entirely different. To me civic is a car for those who love to drive and want driving pleasure. Corolla is for those who want comfort on bumpy roads. Civic provides safety and ultimate driving pleasure as compared to the boring drive of Corolla.

New engine? New transmission? The same 2ZR-FE engine is being offered in a 1.8L premio since 2008 and same 7 speed transmission with paddle shifters was offered in Honda's entry level sedan(city steermatic). How come it has a new engine and new transmission?

Paddle shifters were introduced in honda and it failed miserably.
    Be honest with me now.
There are 2 cars standing in front of yoh one is auto one is triptronic with pedals which one will you preffer? obviously the triptronic way drive it as manual drive it as a auto. how ever you like.
If honda had these pedals now fan boys would be saying this everywhere.
And as per engine I've driven a premio 2 and I how perfect that engine is and this is the first time a pakistani car is getting it unlike the old engine those 1.3's are getting.
It has factory fitted leather seats and navigation where as honda ask a lot for it. And it is 80 thousands cheaper and with that 80 k you can get it insured it.
Idc if you agree to it or not. But grande is really worth the money . only defect it has is the 1 airbag.
I was about to buy a civic showed it to my grandfather he said "ye to look wise 14 lack ki bhe nae lagti" people here spend loads of body kits and led lights on civic to make it look good but its still useless. P.s civic has that tak tak rubber dashboard too.
So yea that's how it goes

I prefer Civic even if its 2 years old! Corolla has better better features but lacks immobilizer & providing less safety features!
