You have to get the feel of your own car to know how early or late is it to shift.

I shift it at 2.5 and it comes down to 2k.

Shifting at a very rpms in fact consume more fuel. Like i remember my uncle's driver would shift the car to 3rd gear at speed of 30 and then he would try to gain speed by pressing the pedal more. Whats the use of shifting at low rpm when you are wasting fuel right out of exhaust any way

That is when you shift at a higher gear at a speed which is not recommended for the particular gear in ANY way. Lets say, you are at 30 and you shift upto 4 maybe, so this will ofcourse give jerks and to overcome those jerks a foolish driver will accelerate while pressing the half clutch which not only consumes more fuel but MOST IMPORTANTLY DOES WRONG TO THE CLUTCH PLATE.

to get fuel economy with early shifting u need to let car accelerate itself(but it feels too slow for our taste man) without increasing throttle, it'll accelerate above 40 anyway as engine itself tries to run at a speed with minimal pumping loss.

what I've learned/heard that gear must be shifted before 3k RPM. I always shift the gear at 2.5k and I guess I am getting the maximum fuel consumption from my car.

Personally I keep the revs between 2k and 2.5k when speeding up, and below 2k for relaxed cruising.

It actually depends upon how rapid acceleration driver want... And should be as per gear ratio of gear box.

Increasing RPM upto redline in Tachometer (Normally nominal revs/min to gain max hp of specific engine) does not harm engine but abnormal engaging/disengaging clutch and pressure plate might worn them earlier than normal.

Hydromatic transmissions takes into account, engine rpm, car speed and accelerator position to shift gear properly. This is the reason automatic transmission has more tool life as compared to same standard manufacturer manual transmission.

i shift at 3k rpm.....Early shifting than 3k infact consumes more fuel as u press accelerator more.........Previously I used to be v.careful while shifting and got 10-11kmpl and I'm carefree and just enjoy normal drive with shifting some btw 2800 rpm to 3600rpm mostly and getting 11-12kmpl....surprisingly....car is gli'12

    My gear changing Ratio
    1st Gear 0-20kmh
    2nd Gear 20-40kmh
    3rd Gear 40-60kmh
4th Gear 60 and carry on
I try to not race excessively although i know my car can 1st to 40 and 2nd upto 80kmh (Swift) but it would be at the cost of fuel :/
Rpm is mostly at 2.5 to 3k
