Default Which one to go for?

    Hi All,

I am changing my job and at my new job i have to monitor a territory from faisalabad, to chiniot to toba tek singh. which means i have to travel alot. my company will pay me 30,000 car rental plus another 10,000 for driver. However, i have option, if i have my own car all that 30,00 is sort of mine.

currently i own a santro which i don't want to use as its not much comfortable and doesn't have abs braking and other safety features. one option i got is to lease a car and pay that money out of my rental allowance.

options that i am considering are

    1. wagon R
    2. Swift DLX
    3. Honda City
    4. New GLI

off course gli and city will be kind of out of budget for a period of 3 year lease plus i will have to wrench up the down payment but that's the secondary issue. i will pay upto 50% down payment of any of these cars but need your suggestions regarding which car to choose as i will be travelling alot and the car i will be driving will be mine in the end.

what makes me think otherwise is that i will be paying heavy lease for corolla and will be using it for official use and then after i pay all the lease my car will be driven around 2 lac kilometres. plus theft issues and maintenance issues. is it still worth it to go for corolla?

Corolla is best for the use u have said, Swift and City have a stiff Suspension which makes it uncomfortable for long travelling and Wagon R is a toy,

Wouldnt recommend lease at all since theres involvement of interest.

Corolla is best for long routes without any issues. Go for GLi. Or you can always convert XLi into GLi.

Personally i would suggest you to go for the rental car along with the driver. Save money from your income and in the time to come, replace your santro with a city, gli or civic, altis. Why the rental car you may ask. Well since it would be paid by your company, you have nothing to lose. maintenance, fuel, mileage is not your headache. You wouldnt have to worry about people scratching your car or your driver slamming it in pot holes. Think about it.

Considering the territory you mentioned, the best choice would be to get a car on rental. Why trash your own car.

Further, you will be better off having the car driven by a driver while you relax.

The question is what car will you get in 30,000/40,000 pm..........

Do you know if your employment is infinite?

Someone I know working in a big pharmaceutical company got top of the line altis on lease coz he was getting car allowance from the company. After 1 year, he was sacked. He had to sell the car on real heavy loss.

Another friend did the same. Got a city on 4 year lease. He has paid 10 lacs for the car till to date and 12 lacs remains. Now he is moving abroad with family and selling his car for 7 lacs. He is also risking his credit history as the new owner of the car may not be that punctual with the installments.

Use a car on rent or buy a car with that 50% down payment money.

i doubt it'll stay in your pocket. you're gonna have to pay the installments plus the kind of bashing your car will, you'll be spending a lot more on maintenance than you'll be saving. Think ahead my friend.

They all are right you should consider a company car because the area which you have mention will destroy your car with lot of travelling. If you really want a new ride then go for a new Swift and stay away from lease.

thanks sir, actually I always tell people to buy a used small car than going for a new corolla/civic/any luxury car through lease if one cant afford it.
I wish I could tell people more openly but then you know what.happens next here.

please be careful in using the words "lease" and "installment" - lease by literal terms means that you never own the car, its a "kiraya" situation where the bank owns the car - you never will own it even if you pay up for it.

installment loan means that you pay an amount + interest to retire the loan and eventually get ownership of the car after the loan is paid off.
