Default Things to do after purchase of a used car.. Suggestions required

    Hi,

I am going to get a 2004-05 City within a couple of weeks. As I am not much knowledgeable about the subject, just want to know what repairs/parts replacements/oil changes etc should I do right after the purchase and how much budget should I keep separate for these tasks.

10% of car's value should be kept as a budget for repairs, what what to look for:

    1. If its automatic then get the gear oil changed asap.

    Other than that

    2. Get brakes checked / serviced
    3. Get suspension checked
    4. Change all the oils
    5. Change all the filters
    6. Change all 8 spark plugs
    7. Get throttle body serviced.
    8. Check if all the bulbs are working
    9. Get inter cleaning
    10. Get headlights buffed
    11. Change wiper blades
    12. Check if wiper washers are working
    13. If windscreen is too wavy during night then you need to address that issue too.
    14. Check if battery & tires need replacement

    Before Buying

    1. Show the engine to a trusted mechanic.
    2. Get suspension checked.
    3. Get body checked.
    4. Get a diagnostic report of its ecu.

Also, ensure that the cooling system is working perfectly. This includes the radiator, water pump, cooling fan, thermostat, and hose pipes. Use an ethylene-glycol-free coolant (preferably Honda's) with distilled or boiled water in a 50/50 mix.

Thanks for such a detailed reply, I really appreciate it. If we only need to do below tasks, what can be the cost estimate?

Change all the oils (Estimate cost in case of M/T)
    Change all the filters
Change all 8 spark plugs (Estimate cost)
    Get throttle body serviced.
    Get inter cleaning
    Get headlights buffed
Get brakes checked / serviced (Estimate?)

best thing in case of Honda is to take it to 3S and get it fully inspected, they will give a list of necessary work for the car which you have the option of getting done by the 3S or some other place of your own liking/preference.

Thanks for reply, I also have planned the same but created this thread just to know which tasks will be more critical to get done immediately and their estimate cost.

I guess Honda people take Rs. 2000 for full inspection, however, you should take the car to them before buying.
