    Default Buying a Vitz 2002 or a new JDM?

    Dear All.

    I need suggestions regarding buying an automaic car :-

    Uncle has a Vitz 2002-04 model and is willing to sell it. It is in good condition as he lives in Islamabad and travels very less apart from office to home daily routine. It doesn't have CNG and has always been on petrol. However, like most of the Vitz, it has pathetic mileage perhaps due to CAT being clogged [Haven't checked yet] and averaged 12.7KM/L from Islamabad to Lahore.
    The price could be around 7 Lakhs.

    The other option is to go for a 650 JDM which has a much better mileage and would be better for resale and condition. Honda Life/Mira are primary options which we can buy at around 11 Lakhs. Other option we were looking at is City Automatic but it also doesn't have good mileage.

    What do you guys think? Is Vitz worth going for considering we could get fixed the CAT problem? And is Honda Life/Mira good enough for daily purposes and perhaps a long drive? One of the reasons we are hesitating in JDMs is it being 650CC and Vitz 1000CC [haven't checked, but seems like it]

    Your replies would be much appreciated. Consider that we are planning this car to last for a good time and would be at home for younger brother and mom. Taking it to mechanics every month could create issues.

Also, on an average, the Japanese cars do a 9300 kms in a year. this is not my observation. The below link will explain it all. Even if we triple it, a 27000 kms mileage in Japan a year will calculate to 81k kms in 3 years (if we are importing a 2011 vehicle). Even if u maintain it like mint and change oil and filters every 3000 kms, you cannot defeat the usual wear and tear of the engine parts. u can yield higher mileages from larger engines since the power to weight ratio does not put such drastic load on the engine. on a 660cc which engine is already working under load, how can u extract a 250k mileage that too in PK with low quality fuel and road conditions as bad and still claim it to be driving like a new car? U might have heard a lot of stories about CAT converters gone bad even in new cars...i mean its just one of the problems....

    let me share my experience:
    Few days back i was looking for a Vitz, i came across one 2008 White FL 2010 registered, when i went to see the car it was the same which my friend owned and sold approx 2 years back with the odo clocked at 93k km , i didn't express that to the seller that i know this car, when i asked mileage he told me only 40k km Genuine driven , i asked for the papers and in the export certificate mileage showed 130k kms i phoned my ex friend and asked what was the mileage when u bought it, he said, yar takreeban 50k kms chali hui li thi , i wasn't interested in buying that car after recognizing that it was my friends ex and did tell some good words to the seller and left. So that was the reason of my above post that most cars in pak have such stories. Recently a PW member sold out it his Swift 2010 which was 112k kms driven and after a week the same cars add was visible on pw and olx with 40k on the odo, it is infact still for sale.

    Bro I have stated my points through facts and figures and general experience. Plus I am not counting the mileage that was covered whilst driving the car in PK. Japan is a country half the size of PK. It has an efficient system of alternate transport. People in large cities prefer public transport or two wheelers. All the facts run against the reason that cars in Japan cover mileage of 120-140k in a matter of 2-3 years. story is different in Pakistan altogether and it varies provincially. In Sindh, average mileage of a car is around 15k a year. On the contrary, the mileage in Punjab is around 17-18k a year because people there have high intra city travelling.

    My suggestion would be to go for a 2007 or 2010 Passo (though it's not in your list). I'm suggesting you a Passo because it's got good value for money and it's maintenance and consumption too are easily within range.
