Question Worth the shift or not? Suggestion required.

    Hello Pak Wheelers,

    Good day.

Need some suggestion, advise and leads.

Currently i drive Suzuki Mehran 2006 (Snap attached). The car is in perfect running condition. Literally perfect. No work required. But i want to get it changed (some obvious reasons - Comfort, style and a bit of quality).

So for replacement in the same budget (Sell mehran and get other without spending a penny above). I looked arouund and found few options: Honda Civic 1989-1991, Honda Accord 1988, Corolla 1986 etc all in good condition. My bend is more towards Honda Civic or Accord due to its looks and interior and plus it under my budget so i can save some money for extra work on car if required.

Is it really worth the shift or shall i stick with my Mehran?? I actually don't want my car to visit mechanic every month. Currently, i take my mehran for checkup once in couple of month and so i want the same with new ride. Will i achieve it?

If anybody has other good option, please share. Any lead for a decent car will be more than appreciated.

What about parts of these cars? is it easily available and rates?

Finally i want my car to be shinning with some decent looks. I have no idea about it so your words will be appreciated. How much shall i keep for a decent low profile RIMs, interior work and an avg sound system for new car (considering body and engine is all perfect).

Your experienced and valuable comments will be welcomed.

Couple of years ago, I was in the same dilemma. Wanted to swap a perfect Mehran with an old 1982 Honda Accord. Obviously, stepping up from even a brand new Mehran to an old rusted Accord was a treat. But few friends who were level headed at that time pulled me back from going ahead with the deal and thus I was saved. Trust me, you don't want to be visiting mechanics and being ripped off by parts walas every now and then. You got cash (Mehran) at the moment. Save for some time and you wil have lots of better options out there.
The "chull" never ends. You ought to be adding nice set of wheels and rubber, a decent sound system, floor mats and seat covers rather than fixing suspension, doing an overhaul (after few months), stopping an oil leak and rewiring the whole damn car. You asked for an opinion, we, at Pakwheels here and even ethically speaking are morally bound to guide you towards the correct path basing upon our experiences. Its your hard earned money, we value it, you should be doing it too.

If you're bothered by trips to workshops, stick to Mehran which is not giving you trouble.
An old car will take some time to bring back to trouble free status and that is, if you know yourself what needs to be done.
Left to mechanics, you'll be their permanent customer.

I use my car 5 days a week driving to and from work (approx. 30 KM round trip). Rest its all parked and resting. I do know that the change will make me visit mechanic initially to get it tuned as per need and all but don't want to spoil my life and budget at mechanic.

And by going through all above inputs, i believe, i will have to stick with Mehran .

Obviously, you can't compare any other car from Mehran. Really Thank God for blessing me with a ride that majority can't even afford but its just a basic car to have.

As far as oldies are concerned, its better to have hard base below the a** rather than pain in the a** by visiting mechanic regularly :p
Hows your experience? How much do you spend in maintenance on your oldies each month and how often you visit mechanic?

a nice suggestion and very well closed.

@4wheeler : Stick with Mehran ! Remember, local Honda more than 7- 8 years old after manufacturing date, gives surprises after every 3 - 4 months, saying because we have oriel/prosmatic in our family since 2005 and now its time for her to go.

    My suggestion:
    1. Dont go for any car which is more than 10 years old. Mehran may not be a comfortable or spacious car, however it would give u relative better peace of mind than these oldies.
    2. One of the major points to be kept in mind is that if u have to use the vehicle on daily basis (sarkari/ pvt mulazim etc), then u need to have a newer vehicle.
    3. I suggest u keep on saving some more money and after reaching some better threshold, u go for any newer vehicle.
    Best of Luck

Stick with Mehran,,, even if you upgrade to an old car you will be fed up by the looks in some days and then you will be tired of going to mechanics and spending all your salary on repairs and you will in the end curse yourself

    Experience
    Alhamdulillah
