Default Could really use the help in choosing a car

    Hello and AwA!

I'm looking to get myself a car and I could really use the help. I'm completely ignorant when it comes to cars so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My requirements are pretty basic: I'm looking for a good four-door sedan with automatic transmission that can comfortably accomodate five people. I don't know enough about cars to have a preference between locally assembled cars and Japanese imports, so long as it's a good car I don't mind where it came from

Again, I don't know enough about cars to really have a preference between hybrid and petrol engines though I have had a chance to drive a Toyota Prius and I really enjoyed driving it.

My budget is 2 million [20 lakh] though I'd prefer to remain under budget, and I'm hoping that with your help I'll be able to identify what I want so that I can place the order / purchase it in January [ iA ].

Looking forward to your advice, and thanks!

1.6 Altis will cost you slightly above 21 lacs on road. 1.3 Gli Auto is within your budget. You can also go for 1.5 City Aspire Prosmatec.

    Whoa...

It seems the consensus is that the Altis 1.6 is the way to go but according to the on-the-road price I dug up here it's slightly out of budget

Wouldn't the 1.3 GLi be underpowered? A smaller engine on a heavy Toyota chassis sort of seems like it wouldn't perform very well, or that fuel economy would be an issue. Can anyone chime in on this?

What's the sentiment regarding the City Aspire 1.5? I've had the chance to drive the 1.3 and it was all right though it felt a little underpowered to me. Is the 1.5 a significant improvement in performance and efficiency?

If I had three Mehrans I'd probably tape them together to make some kind of a Transformer

Thanks for the advice, if the Al

Drive/Power/Average of City 1.5 Aspire Prosmatic is better than GLi. But it doesn't have as much interior room as Corolla has. 1.3 Corolla will be under powered. I guess 1.6 Altis would be a wise choice keeping your requirements in mind. You'll have to stretch your budget a little.
Almost everyone in Pakistan is doing corruption to the extent they can. Our leaders are doing at the level they can do. So why should we complain?

    Hmmm...

I'm leaning more towards the City Aspire 1.5; I prefer the way contemporary Hondas look and it's within my budget. The Altis 1.6 is beyond my budget and I'm not a fan of Toyota's aesthetics.

Thank you everyone for the advice, I'll update this post as soon as I get my car with a car review by a complete noob

Bro, i would suggest you to go for Altis 1.6. You can increase your budget. You'll lose your charm once the new model of this city comes out.

@zuhaibafzal I'd love to have a bigger budget, if I did I'd totally go for something like an Accord or a Premio but unfortunately 20 lakh is really the outer limit to what I can afford. I'm currently driving a 2000 Honda Civic / 1988 Toyota Corolla so I won't mind it much if / when the next City comes out anyway

The Altis is a hell of a car but I feel that the City gives me everything that I need while staying within budget.

Thanks for the advice though, maybe someday iA when I have to replace a car I'll be able to afford the flagship cars

@hash4u @omar4494 Just out of curiosity, is Corolla theft really that big a problem? I keep hearing about it but I don't really know enough about the market for cars. Is the Corolla really that big a target for thieves? Why is that?

Corolla and mehran are two main targets of thieves, even insurance companies charge high premium on them, just search on the forum and you will find victims, most painful are those who lost their "applied for" car from there car porch.

@zuhaibafzal I'll be going for the 1.5 with an automatic transmission. I got a chance to drive the 1.3 [with automatic transmission] a decent amount [within Islamabad and on a day-trip to Peshawar] and it's a great car but I felt that the acceleration was a little sluggish.

    Thanks for the advice though
