OGRA bans use of CNG in motorcycles
Saturday, August 08, 2009
ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has imposed a ban on use of CNG in motorcycles, asking people not to purchase or convert their motorcycles to CNG.
According to official sources here on Friday, the Authority has asked all CNG station operators, licensees and CNG users to not allow the use of CNG in motorcycles due to reasons of public safety. It is also not covered under the existing Pakistan CNG Rules 1992/Standard Code of Practice and it is an illegal activity, sources added.
The Authority, therefore, has advised the general public not to purchase or convert their motorcycles to CNG, with it being a potential threat to their lives, besides an illegal activity.
CNG station operators have also been directed not to refuel motorcycles converted to CNG. In case any licensee is found indulging in such a practice, the Authority would initiate strict action under applicable rules to ensure public safety at large, sources added. A large number of motorcyclists use CNG as fuel, which is not only a violation of rules but also endangers their lives as well as lives of the general public.
