Dear all,
This topic is made for everybody to get an idea of what it costs while changing the AC compressor in your car. My car's (Civic 2002) compressor was creating problem for the last few months. Refer to this thread. https://www.pakwheels.com/forumreply_az_TopicID!109984~ForumID!10~pw.html. Sometimes gas leakage. Sometimes no restart after being tripped. And after spending many bucks on bearings, refrigerant etc etc, few weeks later, an irritating "ghooooooonnnnnn" type noise produced in the compressor while AC turned ON. It was not bearing, it was from inside the compressor. Finally decided to replace it with a qabli one. Bought a qabli compressor from shoba bazar, infact opened myself from an engine. Detaching a part from an engine is usually good as there are more chances of it being used less because they usually bring the engines with low mileage.
The cost breakup for replacement is as under:
Compressor=Rs. 6000/- (Qabli)
Reciever Dryer=Rs. 1000/- (New)
Refrigerant=Rs. 1200/-
Oil=Rs. 400/-
Labor=Rs. 200/- (Could be higher as civic's engine is so messy to remove even single part)
So a total of Rs. 8800/- was the cost. And yes forgot to mention another expense......
- Challan ticket for wrong turn=Rs. 110/-
Total time consumed was around 7 hours (If it was corolla, it could not take more than 2 hours). Engine parts are so rushed up that they had to remove bumper, radiator, condenser, battery, radiator reservior, mud shields to remove the compressor.
After installation, went to Abbottabad for some urgent piece of work and then back next day. AC clutch was creating problem as it needed little adjustment. Parked the car under extreme sunlight, turned ON the AC and left for about 40mins to let it make several tripping cycles. Satisfied now Throttle adjustment is needed with AC which is not a big issue.
