Very true. But we live in Scotland (northern UK), and here we have deep snow in winter. So although, it will never be used in mud and off-road, our Land Cruiser V8's 4x4 capabilities will be very much needed during winter. We had a BMW X5 (and a Mercedes ML420 before that) that my dad sold before buying our LC V8 and we found it had difficulties in coping with our winter weather.
Our LC V8 is a European specification model and these have additional special cold winter packages on them. These include:
- All heated leather seats
- Cold engine boost starting
- Heated windshield wipers (front and back)
- Leather heated steering wheel
- Heated windshield spray nozzles
- Heated headlight washers
- Satnav based weather warning system
In addition to this my dad has got special snow tyres fitted onto spare 20'' rims ready to go on this winter.
We also need something this big for towing our speed boat (it can tow 3.5 tonnes) for summer day trips on our beautiful Scottish lakes (known as lochs here), and it takes all of our family (7 seats) out for dinner etc too.
So you are correct it will never go off-road, but you can understand why we do need it for winter and summer?
