Car, bike sales continue to vroom

New Delhi: Car and motorcycle sales continued to pace during October beating their own records with Maruti Suzuki crossing the 1-lakh-mark domestic sales and Hero Honda hitting half a million.
In October, Maruti's domestic sales stood at 1.07 lakh units, up 50%, against 71,551 units in the same month last year. In overall terms, sales, including exports, grew 39.2% posting its highest-ever monthly sales of 1.18 lakh units against 85,415 units last year. The A2 segment sales grew 12% at 77,502 units against 68,921 units in October last year.
Hyundai Motor India also posted its highest-ever monthly domestic sales at 34,725 units in October against 28,301 units, up 22.7%. Total exports for the company fell by over 25% to 17,500 units. “Next Gen’ i10 has pepped up things for HMIL with the new i10 sales growing by 26% in the last two months,” said Arvinda Saxena, director (marketing & sales) Hyundai Motor. Tata Motors total sales grew 21% at 64,757 units over 53,404 units in October 2009. The company car segment rose 22% in October to 24,478 units compared to 20,011 units sold last year. Exports for the company doubled during the month to 5,950 units against 2,852 units recorded last year.
General Motors sales jumped 35.59% to 10,051 units in October against 7,413 units in the same month last year.
Hero Honda Motors set a record of 5-lakh units sold in October. The company sold 3.54 lakh units in October, up 42.7%. Anil Dua, vice-president (marketing & sales) Hero Honda Motors said, “A refreshed product range coupled with innovative branding and marketing initiatives led to this success.”
TVS Motors grew 48% in October to 1.9 lakh units. Suzuki Motorcycle reported a 60.51% jump in its October sales to 25,439 units compared to 15,849 units in the same month last year. Yamaha Motors sold 37,251 units against 31,247 units sold in October 2009. Mahindra Two Wheelers sold 21,204 units against 6,804 units in October 2009.
