ISLAMABAD: Capital police have killed a third person at CDA Chowk check post located in the limits of Sabzi Mandi Police Station as a police cop opened fire at an alleged car lifter as a result of a scuffle between them. The cope himself died due to excessive bleeding, said the police.
They said a car thief tried to strike in street no 53, Sector I-10/1 at about 2am but a security guard intercepted him and they had a scuffle. However, they added, the accused managed to escape. They said the residents of the area woke up as they heard noise and informed Rescue 15 police. They also conveyed their message to the police officials performing duty at CDA Chowk via police control; the police said adding they (residents) also told the police about the appearance of the accused as they saw him during scuffle with the security guard.
They said the accused tried to sneak away from the police picket but constable Mukamal Shah (C-4320) stopped him for checking over which he offered resistance and managed to flee by hanging on a truck passing from there. Shah rode a motorcycle and chased the accused, who ran towards a closed street in Khayabane Sir Syed after leaving the truck. Shah succeeded to intercept him on which he, again, resisted and injured him (Shah) by attacking him with a dagger. Shah also shot at his forehead from point blank resulting in his instant death.
The cop contacted the head constable and informed him that he was wounded in an attempt to arrest a car lifter adding the latter was shot dead, said the police. They said that Shah could not talk more and his mobile phone was not responding though his colleagues at the picket tried time and again. They said his colleagues started searching him and found him at a close street in Khayabnae Sir Syed. He was in critical condition at that time but the police immediately shifted him to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where he succumbed to his injuries, they said.
Sabzi Mandi Police Duty Officer Shujaet said that suspected person was 20-years-old and according to his identity card his name was Tanver Hussain S/O Khalid Mehmood. He was resident of Rata Mehra located in the limits of Chontra Police Station.
DIG (Operations) Binyamin Khan and other police officials reached the scene soon after receiving information and visited PIMS. They appreciated the gallant attitude of the martyred and prayed his departed soul might rest in eternal peace.
No one contacted police for body of accused: Pirwadhai Police Station’s ASI Khalid told Daily Times that the dead body of Tanver, the accused, was shifted to DHQ Hospital adding no one approached the police to get his body. He said the police also did not send any person to intimate at the address till filing of this news.
Funeral prayer of cop offered
ISLAMABAD: Funeral prayer of Mukammal Shah was held at Police Line Headquarters which was attended by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Wajid Ali Durrani, DIG (Operations) Bani Amin Khan, DIG Headquarters Kamal uddin Tipu, DIG Security Dr Mujeebur Rehman, AIGs Ahmed Mukaram, Ehsan Sadiq, SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SSP Headquarters Zubiar Ahmed Hashmi,SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood, SP Industrial Area Police Jameel Ahmed Hashmi and other senior police officials. The IGP has said that the personnel of Islamabad police force were very much brave and they would continue to serve the masses with best of their capabilities. He said the valiant policeman - Mukamal Shah - sacrificed his life in the line of duty so his family would be compensated. He said the name of this brave soldier would be forwarded for QPM and his younger brother would be offered job in Islamabad police. The SSP Tahir Alam Khan has said that Shah was a brave solider as he chased a criminal and faced him despite getting injured. He said that he shot at the criminal after receiving injuries.
One out of five cops on duty risks life
ISLAMABAD: Five police personnel were on duty at CDA Chowk check post at the time of the incident but no one except Mukammal Shah chased the accused, said the sources.They said the police claimed he had informed the police after the incident but they did not know as where he was lying after getting injured. They said it was a negligence on the part of his colleagues and head constable as he was died due to excessive bleeding.
Colleagues did not have bikes to go with Shah
ISLAMABAD: Police spokesman ASI Muhammad Naeem said that Mukamal Shah immediately rode a motorbike to chase the accused due to which other officials deputed at the check post could not go along with him. He said the police could not easily find Shah when informed them that he was wounded because he was in a closed end street.
Shah leaves a widow, son and daughter behind
ISLAMABAD: Mukammal Shah, the martyred cop, has left a widow, a four-year-son Salman Shah and two-year-old daughter Zainab. He belonged to Angro Barri, tehsil Tangi, District Charasada. He joined Islamabad police in 2001. He was presently residing at House No D-18, Sector IV, Khayabane Sir Syed. His body was sent to his native village after funeral prayer at Police Line Headquarters.
