Hero Motors not authorised to assemble Belarus tractors: EDB informed

ISLAMABAD (May 19 2006): Minsk Tractor Works, a Belarus-based company, has protested with the Engineering Development Board (EDB) for accepting deletion programme of Hero Motors Limited in the name of Belarus.
"We have not authorised the Hero Motors Limited to produce and assemble Belarus tractor models 510,57 hp, 520,62 hp and 801,80 hp from the units/parts of Minsk Tractor Works," the company said, in a letter to the Chairman EDB, a copy of which was provided to Business Recorder.
Sources in the EDB told Business Recorder that the board has also written a letter to almost three dozen vendors throughout the country, asking them to provide the name of components, purchase order number, size of order, schedule of development, start of delivery and details of advance payment, being given to them by the company.
The sources added that the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) was also investigating that how Hero Motors Limited got cleared 350 CKD kits from Hyderabad Custom through submission of agreement of that company with which they have no agreement.
CBR has been informed that Hero Motors did not pay duty of millions of rupees against the CKD kits, the sources said.
They said that the EDB was also investigating how the tractor firm replaced the agreement in the board and get the CKD kits cleared.
