[LEFT]It is always good to be in an accident, preferably a car accident provided you come out of it alive. And especially better, if you've been in multiple alongwith fights with friends and school mates with some hard physical exercises thrown in for good measure.
Now I'm going to tell you why I wrote all of that; had an accident some time back. I was driving with an old friend riding along. Rearended a car standing in the middle of a one way road. Now the damage wasn't much but the guys who got out of the car were bigger, broader, meaner, three in number and cherry on top, with a huge bull dog **** in tow. I was fcked, and since my friend weighed a little on the lighter side he couldn't help much much less outrun a dog. And I was in no mood to fight but still, the dog I could handle. It was the human part that was the most troubling, especially if they put their hands in their pockets.
Plus couldn't call dad. Was fifty miles from the nearest civilized place on Earth. And by civilized I mean, the city. Plus the image would have been shattered. Grab the mummy daddy!!! Quickly started recalling all of the accidents, fights, training (amatuer) I had ever been in or done, and got tired. So, crossed my arms, stood in front of my car with authority and waited for them to make their move.
'Couldn't you see.'
Me thinking, 'no I was f*cking daydreaming a corvette'
I simply nod my head nonchalantly.
Now he starts checking his vehicle with the customary nods and grunts of thinking of screwing me for every penny we have or beating the crap out of us if we try to run.
'Couldn't you see.' he goes again.
I go, 'First check the damage'
I wait letting him sink in the realization the (apparent lack of) severity of the damage, so we can get down to business. It was then I realized, polite manners are not going to cut, and neither any other sort of verbal form of communication. Best to keep quiet, let them call the shots up till a point. You have nothing on them, so just relax and fight the urge to run away because you can't outrun a dog.
And so with some authority in my voice I advise to let us go find a mechanic, offering one of them to ride with me to build a bridge of trust and some respect, before a fight ensues. Because they were hungry for blood, the vehicle wasn't theirs as was the bulldog and I had no plans whatsoever, under any circumstances to meet the owner.
We find a mechanic after a little while. He gets to work, figures it will cost nothing much more just a few thousand rupees. It is then I see the camaraderie developing between the mechanic and the other guys. Before this gets out of hand, I quickly recall each and every detail of all the repairs i've ever had done on my car, check, cross reference with the current car and politely, yet forcefully advise to take care of the lock, as there is no need for correcting the metal sheet under the bumper. This nearly blows them over, I watch for the dog. Its not in the back seat, where the f*ck is it? Oh, there she is enjoying the coolness of the earty ground on her belly. Is she tied up? Yup. How long's the chain? Its short. Strength? Its rusted, better be careful.
So I try to reason, explain to them, that straightening of the metal sheet under the bumper will neither have a positive or a negative effect on the drivability of the car. The main point that needs to be looked after is the lock and as we're both pressed for time It would be wise to hurry it up.
One of the fat meaner ones looking at me, while the thin mean one is trying to circle my friend and myself. I keep changing my position, keeping everyone to my front, never letting any of them get behind my back. It was tense, man how I wish i was in the city.
After a little while of eye balling, mechanical work, strong body postures, cunning, sly movements the work gets done for a few hundred rupees. I'm glad because if it had been more I would've been discussing dog breeds with the owner.
So, always remember no matter what life throws at you, dont fret over/about it, rather learn from it, prevent it from happening again (in the same position). And you can be sure of coming out of any calamity as a winner.
What's done in the past, cannot be undone
But that does not mean, we keep living in the past.
Rather move on, into the future with renewed interest, vigor and hindsight.
