Dear all,
AOA and warm regards.
I have been a silent but regular reader of the forums section here on PW for quite some time now. Reading through every review, purchase, intro and recommendation by senior members, I discovered that I have a thing for SQ. Having ventured into the aftermarket sound game unsupervised at first, I spent around 30k on a pre-entry level setup comprising of a JVC KD-R616 pre, JVC CS-HX7158 7x10 speakers, JVC CS-GD1200 sub and a Premier amp. Which I took around 5 months and a whole lotta digging into SQ to grow out of (lol). So now, finally, I'm almost done with my first SQ purchase, an SS Ref 800.4.
Now I've been planning gradual upgrades for some time now. And with help from @madhouse12 and @SoundMaster here's what it's looking like.
Stage 1:
Components: Focal Access 165 A1's/Pioneer TS-D1720C's (depending on my budget).
Amplifier: SoundStream Reference 800.4.
Stage 2:
Subwoofer: haven't decided yet; contenders include JBL's GTO1214, Infinity's 1260w.
HU: Haven't decided yet; have received recommendations for Pioneer's 5450SD.
Stage 3:
6x9's: Focal Access 690CA1/Pioneer TS-D6902R depending on budget.
Mono/2 channel amplifier upgrade; not decided yet.
Now it may take a loooong time between stages 1 and 2 so I'll be running the current sub and speakers (the JVC ones) on the Ref.
Now here's where I'm confused. I was reading up on the SS and I saw in the manual ( http://www.audiodesign.de/downloads/manuals/reference.pdf) that it can power a range of impedances. 2-8 ohms normal and 4-8 ohms in bridged mode. So what I want to know is that can I run 2 pairs of speakers (components and rears) on 2 channels? Both the focals/pioneers and jvc's are 4 ohms each speaker. So if I run them in series, that should make it 8 ohms a channel. If so, will it have any adverse effects on quality of sound?
Waiting for your replies. Oh and BTW the planned and unplanned items are open to suggestions, feel free to do so. =)
Regards,
Hassaan.
