Thank you for the effort of registering and sharing this. I have been looking around to find whether Suzuki Kei could be swapped with a bigger engine. In fact Suzuki has 2 modern 1000cc engines: K10A and K10B (there is the F8D but it is not very modern, and probably available only in India, from where we cannot get it). K10B is a 3-cyl and one would feel it is more suited to replace K6A, given the same no. of cylinders the size of block would be same and also the RPM signal etc. would be same, but K10B is also an Indian origin engine, used there in the Maritu Alto K10 (a LWB alteration to fifth gen Alto - HA12 chassis in JDM and RA410 in Pakistan) and Maruti A-star (7th gen HA25 Alto JDM) but not available here.
In fact looking around in Shershah I asked many shopkeepers if they know of K10B - 3 cyl Suzuki EFI engine - and they didn't even know the name. They did not know about K10A also but since I had K10B in mind I didn't focus on K10A. Now that from your experiment it is very clear that K10A can be easily adjusted in Kei chassis, most probably it can also be done to Sixth gen Alto (HA24V/HA24S). Also, the K-series engines are very good. Better than the M-series in that they have coil-on-plug rather than waste-spark ignition.
Please elaborate further:
- What did you change in the engine: assembly (throttle body+head+block+sump), ECU, wiring loom, air filter housing/intake?
- Could the previous wiring loom or ECU be used (far cry since no. of cylinders is different, but still pertinent).
- Why did you change the gearbox? Was your stock gearbox manual or auto? If it was manual then it can be said that it would have too short gear ratios to make a comfortable drive, but in case of auto, why did you change it? Was the stock gearbox not fitting with the engine (physical space) or some electronic incompatibility?
- Was there any alteration to drive shafts?
- Do the speedometer & RPM meter show correct readings?
- Any problems regarding fitting of A/C compressor etc after the swap?
- What about the engine availability? (It makes sense only if many many specimen are available in the scrap yard. Otherwise you buy one and it turns out to be not good and then you are stuck until a new shipment arrives so that the engine dealer could fulfill his warrantee.
- You spent 42k with labour? In exchange?
- Did you check the parts availability of the engine? Suppose you need new rings/oil pump/main bearings/big ends/valve job in an year or two could you find new parts?
Again thank you. Your post has been of great help.
